Golf van verzet tegen de apartheidsmuur

 De afgelopen week zag een escalatie van acties tegen de wurggreep waarin Palestina gehouden wordt door de "verdelingsmuur" die de Israelische regering bouwt in de bezette West Bank. Dagelijks is er protest en zijn er directe acties, gekenmerkt door hoogst zichtbare solidariteit tussen Israelische en Palestijnse activisten. Wat ook opvalt is het gebruik van extreem geweld door de Israelische overheid tegen Joodse burgers. De escalatie startte vrijdag 26 december, toen soldaten van het bezettingsleger echte kogels gebruikte tegen een groep Israëlische, Palestijnse en International Solidarity Movement activisten die bezig waren een stuk van de omheining af te breken in het dorp Mas'ha (op andere plaatsten is het gewoonlijk een betonnen muur). Een Israëlische betoger raakte ernstig gewond en vele anderen hadden lichte verwondingen. De volgende dag was er een demonstratie tegen de muur in Qalqilia, en een protest in Tel-Aviv om de gewelddadigheid van het leger aan te klagen. De confrontaties gingen verder op woensdag en donderdag, waarbij activisten probeerden Olijfboomgaarden te verdedigen tegen de kap in het dorpje Bodrus. Ook hier werd door het leger met scherp geschoten, maar dit keer gebruikten ze vooral traangas en rubber kogels waartegen de activisten reageerden met stenen. Er vielen weer tientallen gewonden en er waren flink wat arrestaties, onder andere een Zweeds Parlementslid, wat beschamend was voor de Israëlische overheid. Op vrijdag hielden honderden leden van de Balad partij een demonstratie op de weg van de apartheidsmuur dwars door de stad Baka. Prominent aanwezig was de "Anarchists Against the Wall" groep, die gevormd werd tijdens de anti-bezettingsacties en sociale strijd in Israel/Palestina, zoals het anti-wall camp in Mas'ha vorige zomer. Terwijl de Israëlische media, zoals gewoonlijk, het dagdagelijkse vermoorden van ongewapende Paletsijnen negeerde, heeft het neerschieten van een Joodse activist het publiek verontrust, er kwam zelfs wat (half humoristische) steun voor de anarchisten in de liberale pers. Op zaterdag hielden honderden mensen, waaronder anarchisten, Ta'ayush activisten en anderen een blokkade bij een hoofdweg voor kolonisten in de West Bank (foto's: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4). Dit gebeurde nadat het leger hen de toegang had geweigerd tot het dorp Deir-Balut, waar opgeroepen was voor een nieuwe grote Palestijns-Israëlische actie tegen de muur. Bewoners Budrus (Ramallah) proberen olijfvelden opnieuw in te trekken
Ongeveer 500 bewoners hebben zondagochtend opnieuw getracht de olijfvelden bij hun dorp Budrus in West Ramallah te bereiken. Zondag was de 6e dag van vreedzame acties en demonstraties tegen de apartheidsmuur in Budrus, Nihilin en Medea. Vorige week moesten 60 mensen het ziekenhuis in naar aanleiding van geweld van de Israelische autoriteiten tegen zelfde soort acties in Budrus. De autoriteiten beschouwen hun olijfolievelden als "gesloten militaire zone". Zie hier persberichten van het mediateam van de demonstranten.

About 500 villagers of Budrus, West Ramallah will attempt to return to their land from 10am this morning. They will be accompanied by about 20 International and Israeli activists.
Today will be the 6th day of peaceful demonstrations against the building of the Apartheid Wall through the villages of Budrus, Nihilin and Medea.
Last week, soldiers and police violently broke up the demonstrations using massive amounts of gas and rubber bullets, beating Palestinians, Israelis and Internationals alike (including a Swedish MP) and invading the village and shooting live bullets.
Over 60 people were taken to hospital last week in Budrus from being shot at close range in the head and chest with rubber bullets. Soldiers were seen beating girls and old women with rocks and batons and even throttling one young woman. Soldiers occupied two houses at one point, severely beating the families inside. Although the Israeli Occupation Forces declared the olive groves of the village to be a "closed military zone" and imposed both curfew and closure on Budrus, this did not stop the residents from gathering every morning in the town centre and marching peacefully down the hill to their land.
In the past month, eight Budrus residents have been arrested for taking part in peaceful demonstrations including three boys last week. Over the weekend, the Israeli Occupation Forces conducted night invasions into the town, arresting Na'eem Morar, one of the co-ordinators of the Popular Committee against the Apartheid Wall, in his home.

A peaceful demonstration of Palestinians and Internationals is once again on the verge of being violently attacked by the Israeli army. Right now, soldiers are chasing a demonstration through the streets, and have beaten some people with batons. Soldiers are now aiming their guns at the internationals and have tried to arrest some of them. The internationals are not breaking any law by participating in peaceful resistance to the Apartheid Wall in Palestine.

The Humanitarian Information Centre in the Palestinian territory is currently monitoring the construction by Israel of a separation wall in the West Bank. UNOSAT is facilitating the delivery of satellite imagery and producing 3D-animation to support the technical analysis carried out by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) and its team in Jerusalem. The imagery provides a very clear overview of where the wall is raised. Combined with field observation, it allows for accurate monitoring of the wall construction progress and its impact on the population in the area.
