this is a SOLIDARITY call out for the people who got arrested at the reclaim the streets demonstration today in copenhagen.
at the moment we have the information that more than 200 people are for sure arrested, but the number is still growing as well people still get arrested off the streets. the demonstration started kind of peaceful, but escaleted after people started to smash windows and attacking pigs. there were burning barricades spreaded all over town, groups went into different streets and made the burning barricades. there are at the moment 4 comrades from amsterdam arrested. some of them face high charges. so show your solidarity with us and your friends !!!!!
one single act of defiance is worth more than a 1000 angry words!!!!!!!

Meer dan 260 mensen zijn tot nu toe opgepakt in Kopenhagen tijdens een solidariteitsdemonstratie voor het Ungdomshuset. Ongeveer 800 mensen namen deel aan de manifestatie, die begon als een 'reclaim the streets party' voor het met ontruiming bedreigde autonoom cultureel centrum.
De politie was vanaf het begin massaal aanwezig, en volgde de groep van alle kanten totdat ze de demonstratie geheel tegenhield. De groep demonstranten sloeg vervolgens een andere weg in, nog steeds vreedzaam en vrolijk, totdat ze compleet omsingeld en aangevallen werd door de politie. Gemaskerde activisten reageerden met het opzetten van brandende barricades en het gooien van stenen en flessen. Gedurende de hele dag stelde de politie zich uitermate aggressief op, waarbij mensen in steegjes werden gedreven en compleet in elkaar geslagen, en met gevaar voor omstanders er met grote snelheid op barricades werd ingereden. Volgens de burgerlijke media waren het de activisten die de gewelddadigheden begonnen, het was echter duidelijk dat het de politie was die de situatie heeft uitgelokt en het geweld begon. De rellen vandaag waren de ernstigste in Denemarken van de afgelopen zes jaar.
Het hele weekend was Kopenhagen het toneel van grote protesten en manifestaties tegen de dreigende sluiting van het cultureel centrum. Zaterdag namen meer dan 3000 mensen deel aan een vreedzame betoging die van Christiania naar het Ungdomshuset liep. Deze demonstratie was de grootste voor het Ungdomshuset tot nu toe. Vrijdag kwamen meer dan 2000 mensen af op een festival in het gebouw, waar dj's, bands en kunst werden gepresenteerd.
De problemen voor het Ungdomshuset komen niet uit de lucht vallen: de plek wordt al jaren bedreigd. De dreiging werd echter serieuzer twee jaar geleden toen de gemeenteraad het complex verkocht aan een groep christenfundamentalisten, die de plek willen gebruiken voor zichzelf. De rechtzaken rondom het complex zijn nu bijna afgerond, en waarschijnlijk gaan de huidige gebruikers die verliezen.

the social centre ungdomshuset is not evicted yet, but they had an action weekend to protest against the decision to evict the house in the near future. and about attacking the pigs and so on... well i have to say it sounds like people had fun, i hope the charges are not too bad and all the comrades from all over europe will get home safely & soon.

Over 260 people are arrested so far in Copenhagen, during a solidarity demonstration for Ungdomshuset. Around 800 people took part in the manifestation, which started out as a 'Reclaim the Streets' party in support for the autonomous cultural centre, which is threatened by eviction.
Police was massively present from onwards the beginning, following the group from both sides and eventually blocking the demonstration at one point. The group then turned in another way, after which the still cheerful and peaceful protesters were blocked in and attacked. It was at this point that masked activists built up barricades and threw stones and bottles to the police. The police behaved very aggressively during the whole course of actions, driving people in alleys where they were beaten up and driving into barricades at high speeds with vehicles. Even though corporate media claim it was the activists who started the riots, it is clear that it was the police which provoked and started the aggression at first. Todays riot has been the most severe one in Denmark for the last six years.
The last weekend Copenhagen was the scene of huge protests and activities against the threatening closure of the autonomous cultural centre. Yesterday over 3000 people were protesting in a peaceful demonstration, which went from Christiania to Ungdomshuset. This has been the largest solidarity action in Copenhagen for the place so far. Friday saw more than 2000 people visiting a festival at Ungdomshuset, staging bands, dj's and arts.
The problems for Ungdomshuset started years ago already, but getting more serious 2 years ago when local authorities sold the place to a christianfundamentalist group, which wants to make use of the place. The courtcases on this issue are almost at a finishing end, which will most probably be lost by the current users.

National court has spoken ... but nobody listened 29 Aug 2006
Yesterday on Monday the 28th the national court decided to second the decision of Copenhagen City Court from 2003. This means that we have lost the right to use the house.
