De Nederlandse maatschappelijke organisaties TNI, FOEI, TIE-Netherlands, OLAA , Amnesty International Nederland, XminY, Casa Migrante, Circulo Bolivariano, Ojala, Cordaid, Hivos, FIAN-NL en ICCO hebben vandaag, 11 augustus, gedemonstreerd op de Dam in Amsterdam als onderdeel van de Wereldwijde demonstratie als solidariteit met het volk van Honduras
De staatsgreep in Honduras van 28 juni jl. is internationaal veroordeeld, door onder meer de Organisatie van Amerikaanse Staten (OAS) en de Europese Unie (EU). De EU heeft de hulpgelden bestemd voor Honduras bevroren. Sindsdien zoeken Hondurese mensenrechtenorganisaties naar herstel van de democratie, waarin ook armen en uitgeslotenen inspraak hebben op hun eigen leven en toekomst. Deze organisaties worden in het nauw gedreven.
Protesten in het land worden onderdrukt, soms met geweld. Repressie en intimidatie zijn aan de orde van de dag. Media zijn aan banden gelegd. Leden van onze collega-organisaties worden gearresteerd, geïntimideerd en vervolgd. Dit maakt het werk van deze organisaties onmogelijk.
Deze ontwikkelingen zijn betreurenswaardig en onacceptabel. Ze druisen in tegen de Universele Rechten van de Mens, zo stellen verschillende maatschappelijke organisaties in Nederland, die werken in Midden-Amerika en Honduras.
Op 11 augustus wordt uit alle hoeken van Honduras naar de twee belangrijkste steden getrokken om te protesteren. De bevolking in Honduras protesteert sinds de staatsgreep op 28 juni jl dagelijks.
De Nederlandse maatschappelijke organisaties hebben steun betuigd aan collega organisaties in Honduras en het volk in Honduras.

Honduras: Noem een Staatsgreep een Staatsgreep!
Op 28 juni 2009, werd de democratisch gekozen president van Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, illegaal opgepakt door het leger en gedwongen in ballingschap te gaan. De staatsgreep leidde tot de installatie van de onwettige regering van Roberto Micheletti en werd uitgevoerd onder het mom van een “wettelijk geoorloofde vervanging” van de president in opdracht van het Hooggerechtshof. Dit alles gebeurde enkele uren voordat de stembussen zouden opengaan voor het referendum over de mogelijkheid tot grondwetswijziging waarbij herverkiezing van de president mogelijk zou worden. Dit vormt echter een bedreiging voor de oppositie en de belangen van economisch machtige groepen die al decennia lang Honduras overheersen, maar is gebaseerd op de autonomie van de bevolking en haar recht op participatie in politieke processen.
De Europese Commissie, de Verenigde Staten, de Organisatie van Amerikaanse Staten (OAS), de Verenigde Naties en alle Latijns-Amerikaanse regeringen hebben de staatsgreep sterk veroordeeld.
De sociale bewegingen in Honduras hebben zich gemobiliseerd tegen de staatsgreep en eisen:
•herinstallatie van de democratisch gekozen president Manuel Zelaya en zijn regering;
•de onmiddellijke vrijlating van alle mensen die vastgehouden worden in het kader van deze illegale operatie;
•de onmiddellijke stop van de onderdrukking van de bevolking en sociale bewegingen en hun leiders door het leger, evenals respect voor hun fysieke integriteit;
•een einde aan de censuur op de media
Duizenden boeren, vrouwen, inheemse mensen, leraren, studenten, vakbondsleden en burgers uit de steden en van het platteland hebben zich verenigd in de strijd de democratie te herstellen. Sinds 28 juni is de wereld getuige van het brute geweld dat door de onwettige regering wordt gepleegd, zoals het vermoorden van demonstranten/critici (negen volgens officiële gegevens), verdwijningen, ontvoeringen en andere schendingen van de mensenrechten. De coup heeft de strijdlust van het Hondurese volk echter niet ondermijnd.
De strijd is nu in een cruciale fase terechtgekomen: de boerenbeweging en het Nationale Verzetsfront tegen de Staatsgreep hebben de sociale en democratische bewegingen en de vakbonden opgeroepen tot een Nationale protestmars die is begonnen op 5 augustus en zal eindigen op 11 augustus in Tegucigalpa en San Pedro Sula. Om deze protestmars te steunen geven we vandaag gehoor aan de oproep tot een “Wereldwijde Actiedag voor Honduras”.

Honduras: Let's call a Coup a Coup
On 28th June 2009, the democratically elected president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya was illegally detained and forced into exile by the armed forces. The coup d'etat was perpetrated by the armed forces and dominant classes who illegally established the government of Roberto Micheletti. The coup was carried out behind the facade of an alleged "constitutional transition" ordered by the Supreme Court of the country, in the face of the call for a popular referendum on the proposed constituent assembly; a call rejected by the Honduran oligarchy but founded in the autonomy of the people to carry out processes of democratic participation. What is undebatable is the fact that the constitutional president, Manuel Zelaya, was detained, kidnapped, and taken out of the country, in a blatant attack against the constitutional order and individual freedoms.
The European Commission, the United States, the Organisation of American States (OAS), the United Nations as well as all the Latin American Governments have vehemently condemned the coup in Honduras.
The popular movements and organisations of Honduras have been mobilizing in opposition to the Coup and demanding:
-the reinstatement of the democratically elected President, Mr Manuel Zelaya, and his government;
-the immediate release of all those detained in the framework of this totally illegal operation;
-the immediate stop to the repression being carried out by the armed forces against the population, popular movements and organizations and their leaders, including respect for their physical integrity;
-the end to the censorship of the media.
Thousands of farmers, women, indigenous people, teachers, students, unionists, and ordinary citizens of the cities and the countryside have been mobilising in a united effort to revert and recover democracy. They are presently suffering persecution at the hands of the illegitimate government. Since 28th of June, the world has witnessed brutal acts of violence perpetrated by the de facto regime in Honduras such as assassinations of protesters/critics (nine according to official count), disappearances, kidnappings, and multiple violations of human rights. However, the repression by the coup has not notched the fighting spirit of the heroic Honduran people.
This struggle has now entered a crucial phase as the farmers movement and the National Front of Resistance Against the Coup d'Etat have summoned the social, union and democratic movements to a National March that began on the 5 of August and will culminate on the 11 of August in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula. Today, in support of this National March we have joined the call for a "Global Day of Action for Honduras".

Solidariteit met Honduras op de Dam in Amsterdam
Op 11 augustus zijn op verschillende plaatsen in de wereld demonstraties gehouden om solidariteit met Honduras te betuigen. In Amsterdam hebben 13 maatschappelijke organisaties gevolg gegeven aan de oproep van Vía Campesina om zich solidair te verklaren tegen de staatsgreep op 28 juni, via nationale protestmarsen die eindigden in San Pedro de Sula en in de hoofdstad Tegucigalpa.
Amsterdam
De Nederlandse maatschappelijke organisaties hadden zich met circa 40 mensen in Amsterdam op de Dam verzameld om te protesteren tegen de staatsgreep, de terugkeer van de democratie in Honduras te eisen en blijk te geven aan hun solidariteit met de mensen in Honduras.
Ineke Jansen van TIE-Nederland, die 10 jaar in Honduras heeft gewoond, bevestigt dat de demonstratie op de Dam “een overduidelijke en unanieme afwijzing is van de staatsgreep”, die eind juni plaats vond. Ze verklaart tevens dat een van de doelen is “het geven van steun aan de sociale bewegingen die dagelijks de straat opgaan om de terugkeer van de democratie te bepleiten en de talloze schendingen van de mensenrechten in Honduras af te wijzen”. Er zijn tot nu toe in Honduras al 9 politieke moorden gepleegd en demonstranten zijn op grote schaal met geweld aangehouden. Volgens Jansen hebben “de Hondurese sociale bewegingen hun acties via verschillende protestmarsen vanuit alle hoeken van het land geïntensiveerd, om op 11 augustus uit te monden in Tegucigalpa en San Pedro Sula”.
Alejandra Slutzky, vertegenwoordiger van ICCO, de interkerkelijke organisatie voor ontwikkelingssamenwerking, bevestigt dat “onderdrukking en intimidatie aan de orde van de dag zijn” in Honduras. Verschillende van de samenwerkings- en ontwikkelingsorganisaties die de oproep hebben ondertekend, werken met partners in Honduras, “veel van de leden van onze collega-organisaties in Honduras zijn slachtoffer van de onderdrukking en hebben te maken met een zeer onveilige situatie” vertelt Slutzky. Met deze demonstratie “willen wij de bevolking en de media in Nederland informeren over de geweldssituatie in dit kleine Centraal-Amerikaanse land, want we vinden dat een dergelijke staatsgreep niet onopgemerkt mag blijven”, aldus Slutzky.
Tijdens de demonstratie waren er verschillende spandoeken en posters met teksten als Coup in Honduras = Human right violations, Call a coup a coup (Noem een “staatsgreep”een “staatsgreep”) en Herstel de democratie. Tijdens de twee uur durende demonstratie in het centrum van Amsterdam werd aan de talrijke voorbijgangers informatie verstrekt en werden pamfletten uitgedeeld met informatie over de huidige situatie in Honduras.
Internationaal
De dagen van Internationale Solidariteit Actie waartoe Vía Campesina heeft opgeroepen, zijn in verschillende plaatsen in de wereld gehouden. In Guatemala-stad kwamen tal van boerenorganisaties samen om te protesteren voor de Ambassade van de Verenigde Staten. In Madrid verzamelden zich verschillende organisaties, waaronder de Ecologistas en Acción en de Comisión Española de Ayuda al Refugiado (de Spaanse commissie voor hulp aan vluchtelingen CEAR), om te eisen dat president Zelaya weer terugkomt aan de macht en om de Spaanse regering te verzoeken om druk te blijven uitoefenen op de huidige regering in Honduras. Ook waren er demonstraties in tal van steden in de Verenigde Staten en Colombia. De ambassades en consulaten van Honduras in Parijs, Rio de Janeiro, Londen, Manilla en Tokyo en nog 50 andere steden zijn afgelopen 11 augustus het toneel geweest van protest.
Protestmarsen in Honduras
Demonstranten uit het hele land kwamen na een aantal dagen van protestmarsen naar Tegucigalpa om op vreedzame wijze de terugkeer te eisen van de afgezette president Manuel Zelaya. De demonstranten verzamelden zich rond de presidentiële woning en de Nationale Pedagogische Universiteit. Vlakbij het universiteitscomplex trad de politie de demonstranten tegemoet met traangas. Zelf benoemd president,Micheletti, heeft aan het eind van de dag weer de avondklok ingesteld. De demonstranten zullen de hele week doorgaan met protesteren in Tegucigalpa. Juan Barahona, sociale leider, heeft tegen de Spaanse krant El País verteld “dat het protest aanhoudt totdat de afgezette machthebber terugkeert en Micheletti de macht afstaat”.

El día 11 de Agosto se llevaron a cabo manifestaciones de solidaridad con Honduras en diferentes lugares del mundo. En Amsterdam 13 organizaciones sociales holandesas se sumaron al Día de Acción Global por Honduras. Esta acción internacional ha sido convocada por Vía Campesina con el objetivo de expresar solidaridad con las jornadas nacionales de protesta en contra del golpe de Estado del pasado 28 de junio.
Amsterdam
Las organizaciones sociales holandesas se reunieron en la Plaza de Dam en la ciudad de Amsterdam con aproximadamente 40 personas para protestar contra el golpe de Estado, exigir el retorno a la democracia en Honduras y expresar solidaridad con las luchas del pueblo hondureño.
Ineke Janssen de TIE-Netherlands, quien ha vivido 10 años en Honduras, afirma que la manifestación en el Dam es “un rechazo contundente y unánime al golpe de Estado” sucedido a finales de junio. Al mismo tiempo nos comenta que uno de los objetivos es “apoyar a los movimientos sociales que están saliendo diariamente a la calle para pedir el retorno a la democracia y al mismo tiempo manifestar el rechazo a las numerosas violaciones de los derechos humanos en Honduras”. Hasta el momento se han cometido en Honduras 9 asesinatos políticos tanto como masivas y violentas detenciones de manifestantes. Según Janssen “los movimientos sociales hondureños han venido intensificando sus acciones a través de múltiples marchas desde todos los rincones del país, las cuales culminan el mismo 11 de agosto en Tegucigalpa y San Pedro Sula”.
Alejandra Slutzky representante de la Organización Intereclesiástica de Cooperación (ICCO) afirma que “la represión y la intimidación están a la orden del día” en Honduras. Varias de las organizaciones de cooperación y desarrollo que firman la convocatoria trabajan con contrapartes en Honduras, “muchos de los miembros de nuestras organizaciones hermanas en Honduras son víctimas de la represión, la persecución y se enfrentan a una situación de mucha inseguridad” asegura Slutzky. Con esta manifestación “queremos informar a la población y a los medios holandeses sobre la situación de violencia que vive este pequeño país de Centroamérica, pues creemos que un golpe de Estado como este no debe pasar inadvertido” argumenta Slutzky.
Durante la manifestación se desplegaron diversas pancartas y carteles con textos como Golpe de Estado en Honduras = Violaciones de los Derechos Humanos, Llamemos el golpe golpe y Exigimos el Retorno a la democracia. Durante las dos horas que ha duró la manifestación en el centro de Ámsterdam se repartió información y volantes sobre la situación actual en Honduras a numerosos transeúntes.
Internacional
Las jornadas de Acción Global convocadas por Vía Campesina se han llevado a cabo en diferentes ciudades del mundo. En Ciudad de Guatemala numerosas organizaciones campesinas se concentraron para protestar frente a la Embajada de los Estados Unidos, en Madrid diversas organizaciones, entre las cuales Ecologistas en Acción y la Plataforma Rural y la
Comisión Española de Ayuda al Refugiado (CEAR), se reunieron para exigir el retorno del presidente Zelaya al poder y demandar al gobierno de España que fortalezca la presión y tome las acciones necesarias para terminar con el régimen golpista. Se realizaron manifestaciones en numerosas ciudades de los Estados Unidos y Colombia. Embajadas y consulados de Honduras en Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Londres, Manila, Tokyo se transformaron en el escenario de las protestas.
Honduras
Manifestantes de todo el país llegaron a Tegucigalpa, después de varios días de marcha, a exigir de forma pacifica el retorno al gobierno del depuesto presidente Manuel Zelaya. Los manifestantes se reunieron el los alrededores de la Casa Presidencial y en la
Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (UPN). En las cercanías del recinto universitario la policía enfrentó a los manifestantes con gases lacrimógenos. Los manifestantes permanecerán toda la semana protestando en Tegucigalpa. El dirigente social Juan Barahona ha manifestado al periódico El Pais “que la estancia se prolongará hasta que regrese el depuesto gobernante y Micheletti salga del poder”.

In de Hondurese hoofdstad Tegucigalpa het voor de tweede dag op rij tot rellen gekomen. Duizenden aanhangers van de verdreven president Manuel Zelaya botsten met ordetroepen. Die vuurden traangasgranaten af om de menigte uiteen te jagen. Om nieuwe rellen te voorkomen is voor de tweede achtereenvolgende dag de avondklok ingesteld. Het vorige uitgaansverbod in Tegucigalpa werd pas twee weken geleden opgeheven. In Honduras is toenadering tussen het Zelaya-kamp en de nieuwe machthebbers nog niet in zicht.

Action Alert from the Vía Campesina in Tegucigalpa, Honduras
Attack against offices of Vía Campesina
August 12th 2009
Last night at 11:23 pm, during curfew which began at 10pm, unknown
individuals driving a cream colour Toyota Turismo with the license plate
PCA1981 fired bullets at the office of Vía Campesina located in the
Alameda neighbourhood of Tegucigalpa, Honduras which is coordinated by
Rafael Alegría. The act was a clear attack against our social
organizations and leaders who are part of the National Front Against the
Coup. In addition to the recent attack on Vía Campesina, a bomb capable
of killing 15 people went off in the building of the Beverage Workers
Union (STIBYS, by its Spanish initials) on July 26th 2009. Both
organizations are part of the National Front Against the Coup.
We condemn this incident given that the activities of Vía Campesina and
the National Front Against the Coup are completely peaceful. It is
important to mention that during curfew only police are permitted to be
in the street.
Vía Campesina of Honduras calls for support from national and
international human rights organizations to remain attentive and to
continue following attacks taking place not only against these
organizations and their leadership, but also against the human rights of
the entire Honduran people and all those who have been protesting in the
streets against the coup for the last 46 days. Rafael Alegría comments,
“People's rights are being violated and it's a truly unfortunate
situation at the moment. People have been wounded, jailed and killed.”
According to a preliminary report from lawyers assisting the National
Front Against the Coup today, hundreds of people were wounded and more
than forty people detained following violence occurring after a
peaceful mass mobilization in the capital city on Tuesday. The group of
lawyers is seeking the liberation of those arrested through Habeas
Corpus. The leadership of the Front insists that the disturbances were
carried out by people who were not part of the protest, but rather
infiltrators interested in provoking confrontations and disparaging the
peaceful protests that the Front has been mobilizing. The people
detained are accused of rebellion, terrorism and treason among other
crimes.
Alegría emphasizes that “The National Front Against the Coup is not
responsible for these incidents. On principle the front supports
peaceful marches, peaceful demands and peaceful mobilization. At no
point do we use or call for violent acts. It appears that these
incidents are the responsibility of groups interested in ruining the
social mobilization and they have taken it upon themselves to provoke
this situation for which we categorically deny any responsibility.”
Given what has taken place in the last 24 hours, Vía Campesina of
Honduras calls out to the entire Vía Campesina network, social
movements, as well as national and international human rights
organizations to send messages or delegations in solidarity with the
resistance against the coup and for the defence of human rights in
Honduras, and to assist in bringing about an end to so much injustice
and violence against the Honduran people.
