dreiging tegen Iraakse volk
Verite - 16.07.2002 12:57

STOP THE NEXT WAR ON IRAQ BEFORE IT STARTS
*Money for jobs, housing, healthcare &
education - Not war!
*Defend civil rights - Say no to racism
and racial profiling!

-----------------

*OCTOBER 26, 2002: Internationally Coordinated Day of Mass
Actions*

On Saturday, October 26, 2002, the first anniversary of
the signing of the so-called Patriot Act bill, anti-war
and civil rights forces are joining together to launch a
massive international mobilization in opposition to a new
war against the people of Iraq.

The A.N.S.W.E.R. coalition is calling on organizers from
campuses and communities around the U.S. and the world to
hold picket-lines, rallies, vigils, teach-ins and more in
their local areas on this day.

-----------------

*JANUARY 18, 2003: MARCH ON THE WHITE HOUSE - WASHINGTON
DC*

Martin Luther King Jr. spent the last year before his
assassination linking the mass movements for civil rights
and freedom at home with the growing opposition to the
U.S. war in Vietnam. This courageous stand constituted a
major political threat to the war makers. Dr. King came
to the conclusion that the "greatest purveyor of violence
on the planet is my own government."

There is no better way than to truly remember the spirit
and legacy of Dr. King than to organize a bold, visible
protest against war and racism in Washington DC on the
anniversary of his birthday. We will not allow the war
makers in the Bush administration and on Wall Street to
turn Dr. King into a harmless icon, rather than an
inspiration for struggle.

That weekend is also the anniversary of the start of the
1991 U.S./UN war against the people of Iraq.
100,000-200,000 Iraqis were killed as U.S./UN bombers
dropped more than 88,500 tons of explosives on Iraq during
this 42-day assault. In the years since, more than 1.5
million Iraqi civilians have perished as a consequence of
malnutrition and disease caused by economic sanctions.

People in the United States and everywhere have an
obligation to stop the Bush administration's mad drive to
launch a new, all-out military aggression against Iraq.
The Bush administration has no right to wage war against
a country that is posing no threat to the United States.
Disregarding all international law, Bush, Cheney,
Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and company are planning to send tens
of thousands of young GIs to kill and be killed in a war
for Big Oil.

The January 18, 2003, march on Washington DC will call for
civilians and soldiers alike to exercise their political
right to speak out against an illegal war that will
benefit only Exxon/Mobil, Texaco, Chase, Citibank,
Raytheon, Lockheed, Boeing and George Bush's corporate
backers who are his real constituents.

Turkey says US is not sharing plans on Iraq, FM to visit Jordan
Jordan-Iraq, Politics, 8/3/2002

The Turkish foreign minister Shukri Ghouril will visit Jordan next week in order to discuss American threats to topple the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, according to a spokesman for the Turkish foreign ministry on Friday.

The spokesman said that talks between the Turkish Foreign minister and his Jordanian counterpart Marwan Muasher will concentrate on " bilateral relations and regional problems especially the Iraqi situation." This week, the Turkish prime minister Polent Acawet announced that Turkey is trying to make the US changing its mind from interfering in Iraq. But he added that his country, despite that, has military and political preparations for a war in the region.

In a press statement issued by the Turkish daily "Turkish daily news," the Turkish prime minister complained that the US does not consult his country enough concerning its military plans relating to Iraq. He said "there are certain activities in Iraq. The American officials are preoccupied in the area. We are worried by all that. We are not briefed on what is taking place and the carried out activities. The Americans have to brief us completely on what they are planning for."

In May, an American military delegation headed for north Iraqi through the Turkish territories. However, another delegation exist now in the area was obliged to enter there through the Syrian territories after the Turkish authorities did not permitted it to cross in.
