Demo in Amsterdam against the war on migrants in the Greek border area CANCELLED

Hierbij informeren we jullie dat deze demonstratie wordt geannuleerd in de oorspronkelijke vorm. Als collectief weten we niet wat het risico zal zijn voor de mensen die de demo willen bijwonen. Daarom hebben we besloten het niet door te laten gaan.

We begrijpen de zorgen die mensen hebben over de verspreiding van het Corona-virus, maar dit betekent niet dat we onze aandacht moeten laten afleiden van wat er gebeurt aan de grenzen van Europa, wat de reguliere media al lijken te zijn vergeten.

Vluchtelingen die vastzitten in de grensgebieden van Fort Europa en op de Griekse eilanden leven al lange tijd in erbarmelijke en onmenselijke omstandigheden. Deze mensen lopen al een groot risico ziek te worden, en geen enkele regering zorgt voor hen. De eerste gevallen van Corona hebben inmiddels een vluchtelingenkamp op Lesbos bereikt.

Corona mag niet worden gebruikt als xenofoob instrument om de grenzen te sluiten en buitenlanders de schuld te geven, zoals sommige fascistische regeringen en media reeds doen.

Er is al een humanitaire crisis aan de gang in een groot deel van de wereld, en zelfs binnen de grenzen van de Europese Unie. Er is oorlog, klimaatcrisis en de armoedecrisis, en mensen die dit volledig terecht ontvluchten. De armsten en meest kwetsbaren worden altijd het hardst en het snelst getroffen door dergelijke crises.

Wij als sociale bewegingen moeten leren van dit soort gebeurtenissen, want dit zal niet de eerste en zeker niet de laatste zijn. We moeten nieuwe manieren vinden om in solidariteit met degenen die het meest worden getroffen te strijden; de armen, de vluchtelingen, en de kwetsbaren. Wij als radicalen zullen solidair blijven met deze groepen.

Hereby, we inform you that this demonstration is cancelled in its’ original form. As a collective, we don’t know what the risk will be for the people that wil attend the demo. This is why we have decided to not let it go through.

We do understand the concerns people have about the spreading of the Corona virus, but this does not mean we can take away our attention from what’s happening at the borders of Europe, which the mainstream media seems to already have forgotten about.

Refugees stuck on the borderzones of Fortress Europe and on the Greek islands have been living in dire and inhumane circumstances for a long time. These people are already in big risk of becoming ill, and no government cares for them. The first instances of Corona have by now reached a refugee camp on Lesbos.

Corona should not be used as a xenophobic instrument to close the borders and to blame foreigners, such as some fascist governments and media are already doing.

There is already a humanitarian crisis going on in a big part of the world, and even within the confines of the European Union. There is war, climate breakdown, and poverty crisis, and people rightfully so fleeing from this. The poorest and most vulnerable will always be hit hardest and soonest by these crises.

We as social movements have to learn from these kinds of events, because this is not going to be the first and for sure not the last one. We have to find new ways to fight in solidarity with those being affected the most; the poor, the refugees, and the vulnerable. We as radicals will keep standing in solidarity with these groups.
