ENGELS

Wednesday there will be a courtcase of some refugees that are still unjustly held after the Notweg eviction. Refugees from the Vluchtkerk and sympathizers will use this occasion to protest against refugees’ rightlessness and the locking up of refugees. The inhabitants of the Vluchtkerk have been in action for months now. That there’s a building does not mean that the problems are gone or that they’ve decreased. So we will stay in action in the street.

We want our brothers free. But this protest is not only about these people, but about all refugees. ‘All refugees are brothers and sisters from the same family. Some refugees don’t even have solicitors, we must be their solicitors’, said the refugee who initialised this action.
The locking up of (activist) refugees is the most extreme, but also the most clear example of how refugees are treated in the Netherlands. Unfortunately this is very common. The refugees are rightless; their captivity is seemingly endless. The law that will make ‘being illegal’ a offense, is a horrible law that will cause human hardship and will not solve a single problem. This law really should not be accepted.

This is no longer acceptable. We want our human rights. We want the policies to change. We are working hard on that. The refugee actions make clear that the Dutch policy is wrong. Wednesday is the next step in that campaign.
