Knipsels internationale pers 2-2-2
Surfer - 04.02.2002 19:06

Direct of indirect via eerdere protesten.

CNN
"...The Crown Prince´s relationship sparked controversy last year when it emerged that Maxima´s father had been a minister during the 1976-1983 Argentinean military dictatorship.
He bowed to Dutch objections and agreed to stay away from the wedding..."
 http://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/europe/02/02/holland.marriage/index.html

 http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2002/02/02/sociedad/1012631997.html

THE GUARDIAN
"...The main problem was that the bride´s father - Jorge Zorreguieta - served as agriculture minister in the bloody Argentinian military dictatorship of Jorge Videla, which ruled from 1976 to 1983. Some 30,000 people were killed or disappeared under the regime.
Although Mr Zorreguieta is not accused of direct complicity in the crimes, it is alleged that he knew what was going on and did nothing to stop it.
...
Videla´s regime was also the focus of another pre-wedding scandal, this time involving one of the officiating priests, Rafael Braun.
...
The final controversy blew up over the gilded carriage that will take the couple on a tour of Amsterdam after the wedding. The carriage, a gift to Queen Wilhelmina in 1899 from the city, is decorated with carvings depicting Dutch colonial slaves, a fact that has angered citizens of Surinamese and Indonesian origin.
"Some people have taken offence," Harry van Wijnen, who has written a book about Maxima, said. "But you can´t do anything about it. It may not be politically correct, but getting rid of the images [of the slaves] would spoil a national treasure."
...
The Dutch republican movement, small and fragmented anyway, does not know what has hit it. A point conceded by Arend Jan Dunning, the country´s most prominent republican. "Maxima", he said "has set us back 20 years."
 http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,3604,643689,00.html

 http://www.lanacion.com.ar/02/02/02/dg_371203.asp

BBC
"...Absent from the celebrations was Maxima´s father, Jorge Zorreguieta, who was a minister in Argentina´s brutal military dictatorship of Jorge Videla.
...
The romance caused uproar when the political past of Maxima´s father was revealed, but she distanced herself from the junta while staying loyal to her father.
Before the engagement was announced, the Dutch Government asked Mr Zorreguieta to agree not to attend the wedding.
It is not the first time a Dutch royal wedding has caused controversy.
Riots accompanied the 1966 marriage of Queen Beatrix and the German-born Prince Claus, who had served in the Hitler Youth before World War II..."

SIDNEY MORNING HERALD
"...The bride´s father, Jorge Zorreguieta, a former minister in the brutal Argentinian military junta of General Jorge Videla, was forced to stay away..."
 http://www.smh.com.au/news/0202/03/world/world13.html

WASHINGTON POST
"...The bride´s father, Jorge Zorreguieta, was asked to stay away because of widespread discomfort over serving in the repressive Argentine regime of the 1970s and 1980s, when thousands of opponents disappeared or were killed. Zorreguieta and his wife, Maria del Carmen Cerruti, had been expected to watch the ceremony on television in London.
...
About 1,000 protesters jeered and whistled at the carriage. One vessel of a white substance splashed against the carriage but quickly was wiped off.
Some protesters urged dismantling the constitutional monarchy, while others demonstrated against the human rights abuses committed while Zorreguieta served as agriculture minister under former Argentine dictator Jorge Videla.
Dutch television said eight demonstrators were detained.
...
The Royal Palace tried to keep the romance private. But it created an uproar when it eventually leaked that Maxima´s father served under Videla.
Before the engagement was announced, the Dutch government asked Zorreguieta not to attend the wedding. In an adroitly managed news conference, Maxima distanced herself from the Videla regime while remaining loyal to her father.
Demonstrations have been the rule at other Dutch royal weddings. Riots accompanied the 1966 marriage of Queen Beatrix and the German-born Prince Claus, who had served in the Hitler Youth before World War II. In 1937, Beatrix´s mother, Queen Juliana, also married a German, Prince Bernhard, who had once been a Nazi party member but who fought with distinction in the war with the United States Air Force."

Spakenburgse wast niet
Surfer - 05.02.2002 11:33

"Verfbom verpest antieke klederdracht
..."
