Nu meldt de website: There are approximately 150 Human Shields in Iraq and c.a. 100 currently en-route, as a result of Mr O'Keefe's call for a mass migration. Citizens of many Western countries have joined the action including people from Spain, U.S., U.K, Norway, Denmark, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Jordan, France and Italy among others. The action is gathering pace and plans to have 18,000 Human Shields in Iraq within 6 weeks. Spokesperson Torben Franck said, "we have demonstrated that the Iraqi people are open to receive us as compassionate friends and fellow humans. We have shown that the Iraqi Authorities intend the group no malice and have not enforced any agenda upon the party in Iraq. We shall continue to respond to the world-wide demand for people to join the action and are confident that an intelligent and peaceful solution be found to the current world situation for all races and cultures involved. Truth, Justice and Peace."

Op  http://www.iraqjournal.org is overigens te lezen over acties die zijn gehouden op 15 februari in Baghdad, onder meer door de human shields. De website meldt ook: "New groups of activists have been pouring into Baghdad from countries around the world in an attempt to stop the war. Over the past week, there have been regular vigils at civilian infrastructure sites that activists and others fear will be targeted by Washington in a war against Iraq."

Shields move into 'targets'
25.02.2003 09:59

24/03/03: Shields move into 'targets' / Next group arrives in Baghdad

The discussions are over, 15 British, Turkish and Russian volunteers moved into Baghdad South Power station. Karl Dallas, 72 from Bradford, UK said.

'This is the easy time. If the bombing starts then it is going to get hairy (frightening)'

Other human shields will be moving into water treatment works, onto bridges and into telecommunication towers.

Some people are taking other peaceful actions in Iraq. The Italian group have set up a medical centre.

The second group including shield co-odinator, Uzma Bashir, will arrive in Baghdad late today.
