It's Not War It's Genocide
karlof1 - 25.02.2003 04:11

Please adopt the word Genocide when describing recent or current events in Iraq.

What was planned and executed during and after the Gulf War was more than war; it was and is Genocide. What Bush et al propose doing is escalate the Genocide; there is no other way to properly describe their plans. So Please, use the term Genocide when talking about the time period from the Gulf War to the current events in Iraq.

By doing so, we will raise the public's awareness of the situation's reality while preparing the ground for the war crimes trials the current and three previous US and UK administrations must be made subject to. Lastly, such a change is the equivalent of a rhetorical smart bomb in the face of the so-called "moral argument" being advanced by Blair, there being absolutely never any moral justification at any time for Genocide; indeed, there is every moral justification for the world's governments and peoples to use any means necessary to ensure that the US and UK cannot escalate their Genocide of the Iraqi people.

Stop the Iraqi Genocide! Indict Bush I, Clinton, Bush II, Major, Blair, and their Responsible Ministers for War Crimes! No More Resource Wars!

Genocide and Semantics
simon s. - 25.02.2003 10:22

What would Karlof1 call what Saddam H. did to the Kurdish people of Halabja, gassing a whole village??
How would one call the systematic torture used by the Iraqi regime to literally CRUSH opposition???
Even Uday & Qusay Hussein, his sons, like to get down & dirty with a blowtorch & a pair of pliers if they have a 'bad day'...Karlof1's link is to some site for Muslim-fundamentalists. I totally reject Bush & his 'unholy war' but I have equal Fear & Loathing oF Muslim-fundaMENTAL-cases, insh' Allah!!!
Save us your petty semantics, and get used to the Fact that some backward, ridiculous 'religion' called Islam
doesn't set the 'moral standards' in this world.
As Atheist, I might even add: Thank Gawd for that...

talk talk talk, some could talk forever
Please DON'T adopt the word genocide
me - 25.02.2003 10:46

It's inadequate and its inappropriate.
Genocide is when the goal of the killing or the exterminations of a race or population. The killing of Jews and Roma, for being Jews or Roma, during WW2 is genocide, the killing in Rwanda is genocide. The ethnic cleansing in the former Yugoslavia is only partly genocide because the killing was a means of terror to make people flee the area.
The bombing (or starving) of Iraqi’s is not genocide. It's evil or stupid or both, but not genocide since the goal is not the extermination of Arabs. It might fit your profile of evil America, but its nonsense. This war is about power, its about control of a region, its about American domestic policies and internal power structures and of course its also about oil, but it's not about killing as many Iraqi’s as possible and therefore its not genocide!
By using this term lightly you get terminology inflation and the word loses its meaning. Also people will not listen to you anymore and anything you say will be discarded as hysterical crap. Stay with the facts! Get a dictionary.

Nog een demo
* - 25.02.2003 13:08
