Friday 29th August.
Between 10th-14th September the World Trade Organization (WTO) meets in Cancun, Mexico. Here decisions will be taken that threaten to further tighten the grip of transnational corporations over our lives. At this info-evening we will explain (simply!) exactly what is on the agenda at Cancun…such as how the EU is further threatening the welfare of billions of people by trying to expand the powers of the WTO. We will also discuss what local actions are planned and brainstorm possible further actions. Everyone welcome!

Vrijdag 29th Augustus.
Tussen 10 en 14 september houdt de wereldhandelsorganisatie (WTO) haar jaarlijkse vergadering in Cancun, Mexico. De beslissingen die daar zullen worden genomen dreigen de grip van multinationals op ons leven nog groter te maken. Op deze info-avond zal op worden uitgelegd wat er precies op de agenda van deze bijeenkomst staat, op een manier die voor iedereen te begrijpen is. Een voorbeeld is dat de Europese Unie zal proberen de macht van de WTO uit te breiden, en de gevolgen daarvan op het welzijn van miljoenen mensen. We willen verder praten over akties in Nederland tegen de WTO, en brainstormen over toekomstige aktiemogelijkheden. Iedereen is welkom!

Ook ik ben tegen globalisering en tegen WTO, maar ik mis iets tijdens discussies hierover.
Volgens mij is er nogal een tendens om via WTO vooral de N-Amerikaanse en Engelse taal te gebruiken, waardoor ook de Nederlandse taal steeds minder te horen is.
Ook dit beschouw ik als een reden om me te willen verzetten tegen WTO.
