Last call for Queeruption 6 Amsterdam
David - 19.05.2004 18:31

Queeruption is a free Do It Yourself gathering of people who don't feel at home with the way the culture popularly labels sexuality in black or white, good or evil, commercially interesting or a threat. If you don't feel at home, make yourself at home. And do that all yourself!

Hello everyone,

If you would like to forward this message to anyone interested, go ahead.

"Actions anarchy antics bands bykes cabaret carnival ceilidh dancing DJs dress-up diy film exhibitions erotica exchanges anti-fashion show feasting games gossip herbal health invisible theatre kids' space meetings orgy performance politics porn queerstory sextoys SM squatting vegan cakes workshops zines...."

Queeruption is a free Do It Yourself gathering of people who don't feel at home with the way the culture popularly labels sexuality in black or white, good or evil, commercially interesting or a threat. If you don't feel at home, make yourself at home. And do that all yourself!

Queeruption is a free DIY event that has happened 5 times - twice in London, [and once] in New York, San Francisco and Berlin. It has been dubbed "3 days of art, action and anarchy" (London, 1998), "a radical queer encuentro" (New York, 1999), "an explosion of sex and politics" (London, 2002), and "a great queer camping trip" (Berlin, 2003). While some gatherings have been more communal and other more spread out, some held in the city and others rurally, the overall effect is one of building radical queer community, both within the local scene and internationally.

This time it's in Amsterdam. If you're already packing your bags, or have heard about us for the first time, there's the practical stuff listed below. If you have any questions, just write us an email and we'll respond. Also, more info can be found on our website: www.queeruption.nl

Where is it gonna be?

Amsterdam, pakhuis Afrika. A large squat located on the waterside of Amsterdam in an old warehouse. There's room to sleep for about 200 people but if there's more that we will try to arrange alternative sleeping possibilities. There's loads of space to perform, eat, drink, make music and debate. As it is located on the water there's lots of possibilities to do outside stuff.

What will happen?

It's up to you! Past Queeruptions have had debates, workshops, filmnights, political actions, live music and more- all organized by people attending Queeruption. If you have an idea or an actual thing you would like to organize, do let us know, for instance if you need any equipment. Also if you want info to be included in the program booklet you have to send it to us before May 28th. There's not going to be a rigid schedule, it's not a conference. If you get inspired during Queeruption, there are possibilities to do it there and then.

Will it cost a lot of money?

No, it's free and we can provide you with food. However we are dependent on donations to cover the costs. If there is money leftover we will hand it over to the next Queeruption.

What to bring?

It's best if you would bring a sleeping bag and an inflatable bed (or something like that). We do have some mattresses but probably not enough for everybody. Furthermore do bring your own plate, cup and cutlery. Also stuff you need to give a workshop or free stuff, you think we could use. If in doubt just ask us!

Do I have to stay for the whole week?

No, but it would be much nicer. There's no strict door policy and you are free to choose which activities you would like to attend. But of course we wouldn't want to serve as a cheap location for just a holiday in Amsterdam.

What can I do?

Apart from organizing a discussion, action, workshop etc we will depend on people to help us out cooking, cleaning, and more. There will be a list with all sorts of stuff to do where you can sign up for a specific day for a specific task.

Can I come earlier?

Of course. If you are around before the week starts you could help out with the preparations and we can find you a place to stay. Just contact us.

How can I get into contact?

By e-mail, telephone or search our website

More practical Stuff:

How to get to Amsterdam:

Flying to Schiphol: take the train to Amsterdam Central Station (15

minutes)

By bus: You'll arrive at Amsterdam Central Station or Amstel Station.

From Amstel take the metro to Amsterdam Central Station (5 minutes).

By car: buy a map or find your way to Amsterdam Central Station.

How to get to Pakhuis Afrika:

It's a 15-minute walk from Centraal Station, the central railway station of Amsterdam where all international trains arrive. If you fly into Amsterdam, take a train to "Amsterdam Centraal" (a 12 - 17 minute trip). At Centraal Station, follow the signs saying "boot" or "Noord" so that you walk out the back exit to the station facing the water (the IJ). Turn right and keep going with the water on your left side and the traffic on your right side. You will go over a somewhat steep "hill" (actually a viaduct), on the other side you will see a building under construction and following that an oddly-shaped glass building (the PTA, Passenger Terminal Amsterdam). Following that you will see a sign pointing left to Pakhuis Amsterdam. Turn left, go all the way to the quay, and turn right again to follow the water. Before you reach the bridge going across the water, the entrance to the Afrika will be on your right.

If you want to take part but would like to stay in a hotel, just send us an email and there's a list of places we can send you but prices will start at 15 euros per night and you have to book in advance.

What to Do
chiemel - 22.05.2004 17:17

understand that we have to do it ourselves, but still would be nice for people like-me, that a sort of programme is published since I`m not going to spend a whole week in this event but like to participate in just some action etc...
