Streamtime en Iraqi dichters in Amsterdam
streamtime - 17.10.2004 11:52

Arabist Caroline Roset will today introduce the Arabic poets Mohammad Al-Amin, Chaalan Charif, Salah Hassan, Naji Rahim, Mowaffk Al-Aawad en Ali Shaye. Every poet will recite their own work in Arabic. The Dutch translation of the poems will be recited by actor Stipo Jelec.

In a series of one month of exhibitions of paintings, poems and theatre they make their world known better to us. If you are near Amsterdam, you can come and join. If you are located elsewhere, it is possible to follow it through the streaming radio transmission next Sunday.

On Sunday, October 17th, six Iraqi poets will present their recent work. The afternoon of Iraqi poetry will start at 15.00 in OCCII, Amstelveenseweg 134, Amsterdam. (Central European Time - CET)

Poetry is the most popular way for art and expression in the Arabic world. It is practiced by many people and they are highly respected. Modern Arabic poetry knows free-er forms of poetry and a great thematical diversity. The poet has a unique role. He inspires and comments as well by the written as by the spoken word. Above that he is the most pointed person to break taboos on personal, religious, or political matters.

Arabist Caroline Roset will introduce the Arabic poets Mohammad Al-Amin, Chaalan Charif, Salah Hassan, Naji Rahim, Mowaffk Al-Aawad en Ali Shaye. Every poet will recite their own work in Arabic. The Dutch translation of the poems will be recited by actor Stipo Jelec.

Mijn complimenten!
Diana Ozon - 17.10.2004 19:35
