Broeinest: Wereldbank en climaat
broeinest - 05.10.2006 13:52

(Englsih version see below)

Monday, 9th of october: The Worldbank and climate change

Most of us agree that drastic steps are needed to stop climate change. But what is actually being done? One actor influencing the world's energy supplies by guiding the energy policies of the developing countries is the World Bank. Despite its track record of supporting fossil fuel and other environmentally harmful projects across the globe, the Bank is presenting itself as a leading force combating climate change. Is the Bank's brand new action plan for energy investment and global warming effective, with solutions such as nuclear power and carbon storage? What about carbon trade, a profitable business which the Bank recently undertook? A week before the conference on "clean" energy and CO2 emissions reduction, where the World Bank will present its new energy investment framework we will reveal what is actually behind the rhetorics.
