12-12: Geen vrouw in de cel vanwege abortus!

Dinsdag 12 december 2006 is er een manifestatie voor het recht op legale en veilige abortus
in Den Haag.
Deze begint om 11.30 bij het Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken (Bezuidenhoutseweg 67) en gaat na een wandeling met spandoeken vanaf 12.30 verder op Het Plein (nabij ingang Tweede Kamer).

Vrouwen zijn in levensgevaar en komen in de gevangenis waar abortus illegaal is. Wereldwijd hebben jaarlijks zo'n 46 miljoen vrouwen een abortus,waarvan ongeveer 20 miljoen illegaal en onveilig. De gezondheid en het leven van deze vrouwen staat op het spel. Elke zes minuten sterft een vrouw vanwege een onveilige abortus. Ook is er in landen waar een restrictieve wetgeving heerst, een tendens naar totaalverbod van abortus, zelfs als het leven van de vrouw in gevaar is. Voorstellen van politici voor nog meer restricties worden vaak met electorale bedoelingen gedaan en onder druk van de katholieke kerk en conservatieve evangelische kerken.
Naast het zelfbeschikkingsrecht worden hiermee ook het recht van vrouwen
op vrijheid, gezondheid en leven geschonden.
In El Salvador bijvoorbeeld is al 8 jaar totaal geen recht meer op abortus, zelfs niet als het leven in gevaar is door de zwangerschap en worden vrouwen strafrechtelijk vervolgd.
In Nicaragua is sinds 17-11-2006 zo'n totaalverbod.
Ook binnen Europa zijn gevaarlijke ontwikkelingen; In Polen dreigt een grondwetswijziging richting "beschermwaardigheid van het leven vanaf de conceptie." Als dat doorgaat komen de rechten van de foetus in de plaats van die van de vrouw.
Committee voor recht op abortus roept Nederland op om het abortusbeleid in haar partnerlanden aan de orde te stellen. Nederland moet de dialoog durven aangaan en een pleidooi houden voor veilige, legale abortusvoorzieningen. Tevens verzoeken wij Nederland meer financiële middelen beschikbaar te stellen voor reproductieve gezondheidszorg, voorlichting en anticonceptiva. Belangrijk is ook dat Nederland bij
zal dragen aan het abortusfonds van IPPF.
We roepen het ministerie van buitenlandse zaken op om in partnerlanden met een restrictief abortusbeleid een dringend en continue pleidooi te houden voor veilige abortusvoorzieningen.
Binnen de EU dient BZ te pleiten voor verwijdering van Polen uit de EU als de grondwetswijziging die het vrouwenrecht schendt daar wordt aangenomen.

*Vrouwenrechten in Latijns Amerika.
*Wat betekent een abortusverbod voor jongeren (Sille Jansen:Choice for youth and sexuality)
*Recht op abortus vanuit feministisch-historisch perspectief (Inge v.d. Velde)
*Women on Waves zal vertegenwoordigd zijn op de manifestatie.

Womens lives are in danger and women are in jail in countries where abortion is illegal.
Every year around 46 million women around the world have an abortion, out of which 20 million are illegal and unsafe. The health and live of these women is at stake. Every six minute a woman dies from an unsafe abortion. As if this was not enough, there is now a tendency in some countries with already restrictive abortion laws, to outlaw abortion completely, even to safe a woman’s life. Proposals of politicians for further restrictions are often put forward with electoral goals and under the pressure of the catholic church as well as conservative evangelical churches.
In El Salvador, for instance is abortion is already completely banned since eight years, and women are legally persecuted. Women seeking health care with complications of illegal abortions are handed over to the police by doctors, in open violation of patient confidentiality.
In Nicaragua there is a total ban on abortion signed into law on 17 November.
Because illegal abortions are of bad quality, many women suffer serious health consequences or die. Poor women are hit the most by this situation, as they don’t have the money to go to another country in order to get an abortion.
In the European Union strict abortion legislation exists as well. In Poland a constitutional reform in which the rights of the foetus replace those of the woman is threatening to become reality. The “protection of life from the moment of conception” will mean the coup de grace for women’s reproductive rights in Poland.
Legalization of abortion can prevent unnecessary suffering and dying of women. Restrictive abortion legislation violates women’s right to self-determination, as enshrined in international conventions and the UN declaration of human rights. In addition to the right to self-determination a number of other rights of women are violated, such as the right to freedom, health and life.
Committee for right to abortion (CVRA) wants the Netherlands to continually and urgently plead for safe abortionfacilities in partnercountries where the policy is restrictive. Also we want the Netherlands to provide more money for reproductive healthcare, contraceptives and sex education. Important is that the Netherlands must contribute money to the abortion funding of IPPF.
Within the EU the dutch ministry of foreign affairs will have to plead that Poland has to leave the EU if Poland would actionally decide to the constitutional reform that destroys the womans right.
