 JERUZALEM - Een Palestijnse staat is voor Israël van vitaal belang. Komt die er niet, dan wacht Israël een zelfde lot als het Zuid-Afrikaanse apartheidsregime. De Joodse staat zal ten onder gaan aan de strijd die zijn gediscrimineerde Arabische inwoners zullen voeren voor gelijke rechten.

Dat heeft de Israëlische premier Olmert gezegd in een interview met de krant Haaretz. Hij waarschuwt er al langer voor dat de groei van de Arabische bevolking in Israël en de bezette gebieden een gevaar vormt voor het voortbestaan van de joodse staat.
