going postal [en]
angry zinester - 14.02.2008 13:15

has anyone else noticed that postage prices keep on going up whilst the service goes down???

postage was always quite expensive and now its fucking outrageous.

for a long time, there hasnt been the printed matter rate which still exists in england. this means you can send pamphlets, flyers etc for dirt cheap.

since those wankers tnt came to power in january 2007 things have got much worse.

with in netherlands the price to send a postcard or letter was something like 32 cents, then it was 39 and its now 44 cents. the thing is i dont remember how much it cost pre2001 but for sure we got screwed when they switched from guilders to euros (like with everyhting else).

sending stuff within europe has risen pretty steeply too. in now in 2008 its 70 cents standard and 75 cents priority.

and the final coup de grace, sending stuff outside europe got more expensive too. there is now no standard (second class) rate, only priority. sea mail seems to have stopped as an option a long time ago, or at least i never found a clerk who could tell me any info on it. so there's only air mail and theres only priority.
this means a letter to my penpal is now 92 cents!! it used to be a lot less!
and recentlywhen i sent a book (over 500g) it was 10 fucking euros!!! now i have to wait til i have a few books and i can send a packageof up to 2kg for 18 euros .... or i dont bother, or i buy him the book on amazon.com instead!

maybe this doesnt matter to many people in the age of email and privatisation but i think it is really lame. i like to make and receive mail art, i enjoy trading zines and swopping letters. now its getting to be an expensive hobby.

add this to the fact that most clerks are morons and will tend to overcharge or give the wrong price and you can only conclude that tnt are wankers and this whole thing sucks!!
