Solidariteit met Amadeu Casellas
Amadeu Casellas zit al ruim 23 jaar opgesloten in een Spaanse gevangenis. Hij was veroordeeld tot 20 jaar. Hij zit vast voor verschillende bankovervallen gepleegd eind jaren 70, voor de Spaanse anarchistische beweging. Ook voert hij sinds het begin actief strijd tegen de isolatie-folter binnen de gevangenissen en voor de vrijheid van alle gevangenen.
Hij heeft zijn straf al uitgezeten maar wordt nog steeds vastgehouden. De Spaanse autoriteiten beloofde hem vrijheid nadat hij vorig jaar 76 dagen in hongerstaking ging, maar dit was een leugen. Amadeu Casellas zit nog steeds vast. Sinds mei is hij weer in hongerstaking en hij heeft bekend gemaakt in hongerstaking te blijven tot hij vrij is.
Amadeu vocht na het Franco regime door tegen onrecht maar wordt tegenwoordig door dezelfde fascistische methodes onderdrukt. Anno 2009 staan de Spaanse gevangenissen nog steeds bekend om hun martelpraktijken.
In tijden van economische crisis en toenemende overheids controle, waarbij de banken ons dagelijks beroven en de authoriteiten ons steeds meer vrijheden ontnemen, hebben we meer te vrezen van de banken dan van bankrovers.
We steunen Amadeu als persoon, die niet achter tralies wil leven en als politiek activist die geen wetten respecteert die de belangen verdedigen van de economische en politieke elite in plaats van onze belangen.

Amadeu Casellas is an anarchist prisoner who has been locked up for 23 years for bank expropriations. He has also been very active in the struggles inside the prison. He has served out the sentence given to him by the courts but remains locked up. Last year he went on hungerstrike for 76 days demanding his release. The prison authorities promised to start him on a release program as soon as he recovered his health, and once again they have lied. Amadeu went back on hungerstrike in May to win his freedom, as solidarity actions continue in the streets....
AMADEU CASELLAS ABANDONS THE WATER FAST, FOR HEALTH REASONS, BUT CONTINUES WITH THE HUNGERSTRIKE. THE RETALIATIONS CONTINUE.
We're waiting to receive a communique from Amadeu explaining the latest events, but at the moment we can explain what we have been able to find out after his lawyers' visit today, 3 June 2009.
In the first place his health is deteriorating at an alarming rate. The three days of water fast worsened his already grave situation. After today's medical examination the doctor advised him of the seriousness of his situation and the danger he ran of suffering serious dehydration if he continued to not drink water. For this reason he ended the water fast, although he goes forward with the hungerstrike, and his condition is getting worse.
Saturday 30 May, he was visited in the infirmary, where he has been for the last days, by the director of Brians 2 (the prison), Pedro Dominguez, advising him that he was going to take disciplinary measures against him. Amadeu, who had already complained of the retaliations in a letter to the courts, received a reply on Monday instituting all the retaliatory measures taken against him by the prison staff: prohibition from communicating with all authorized people except for family members, and control of all ingoing and outgoing mail. On top of this they added a search which left his cell destroyed and resulted in the seizing of documentation and personal effects, which were returned the following day.
The decisions coming directly from the prison adminstration are justified on the basis of a supposed “risk to the personnel and the institution” given that they have established a direct connection between communiques from Amadeu published on the web and some “violent actions against property and people” “by antisistema groups” (antisistema is the term created by the press to describe anarchists, squatters, radicals, and other undesirables in Spain). Concretely they are referring to an attack against CIRE (a prison labor company) on 27/05/09 and a protest on 30/05/09, both in Barcelona. Additionally they explain that the latest communiques from Amadeu denounced certain people belonging to the prison institution, taking it for granted that simply denouncing characters such as Montserrat Tura or Albert Batlle is a matter of guilt.
We think that these are nothing more than retaliations for maintaining an attitude of constant struggle and denouncing the deaths, injustices, and dirty tricks carried out inside the Catalan prisons. We believe that Amadeu bears no responsibility for the actions that people in solidarity carry out anonymously. The attempt to repress the solidarity by cutting off its communication with him will not be effective, the struggle in the streets will not stop because it doesn't depend on him, it grows spontaneously and horizontally, and will continue as long as one single prisoner remains locked up.
As you see the situation is quite tense not only due to Amadeu's precarious health but also due to the repressive attitude of the prison, from the director down to the prison guards and the situation itself, all contributing to a climate of tension. The lawyers have also told us that they are being controlled more severely than normal in their work to support Amadeu.
We are aware that in these last weeks there has been a certain confusion and lack of communication on the part of the distinct groups supporting Amadeu. To start with the restrictions on Amadeu's communication—currently even greater than before—makes it difficult for us to get his opinion on matters in a direct and immediate way. Secondly the isolation to which he is subjected obstructs him from getting a clear view of the situation on the outside. And finally, we believe that the different visions that each group has for realizing our support are also a cause of this strange situation, for which we want to apologize. In any case we will continue, readier than ever, which is just what the situation requires.
We request the greatest level of solidarity, and urgently, in the multiple forms that you all believe to be opportune, until Amadeu is free.

Quisiéramos llamar su atención sobre la situación del preso Amadeu Casellas
Ramón, que como muy bien saben, ha iniciado una nueva huelga de hambre el
día 25 de Mayo, en la prisión de Brians 2.
No creemos necesario explicarles los detalles por los que ha tomado dicha
decisión, ustedes los conocen bien, pero sí que quisiéramos recordarles que
ustedes habían llegado a unos compromisos a los que han faltado en su
cumplimiento desde un inicio. Pero, parece que eso no les ha bastado y ahora
le han cancelado también todas las comunicaciones y contactos con el
exterior, llevándole a una situación difícil y de extrema gravedad. Ustedes
abusan de la ley, y le hacen responsable de situaciones en las que Amadeu ni
tan siquiera ha podido participar. Aquí ya no se trata de la presunción de
inocencia, sino del uso arbitrario del castigo y de la imposición del abuso
como método.
De nuevo, entre todas las opciones posibles, optan por la que más perjudica
a Amadeu y le condenan por algo en lo que ni tan siquiera ha participado y
no le dejan otra posibilidad que la de tomar acciones cada vez más
drásticas.
Por todo ello, quisiéramos recordarles que ustedes, los responsables de la
Dirección General de Serveis Penitenciaris, los responsables de dirección de
la prisión de Brians 2 y el equipo de tratamiento del MR 4, son responsables
directos de las consecuencias que pudieran derivar hacia la salud y la vida
del propio Amadeu y además, ustedes sí que son los instigadores de que
Amadeu opte por opciones tan drásticas.
Desde este escrito, quisiéramos recordarles una vez más, que si no
reconsideraran su decisión, no sólo se están cometiendo un abuso arbitrario
de poder, sino que además están poniendo en grave peligro la vida de Amadeu
Casellas y llevando todo ese dolor hacia sus familiares amigas y amigos.
Amadeu debería de estar en la calle, y ustedes lo saben. Si no optan por la
vía de su puesta en libertad, estarán optando por su muerte o por un
desenlace indeseado, que de producirse, éstos no serán silenciados y tendrá
nombres concretos en dicha asesina complicidad.

Por el presente escrito, quisiéramos hacerle llegar nuestra preocupación por
la situación del preso Amadeu Casellas Ramón en la prisión de Brians 2, que
el día 25 de Mayo ha reiniciado una nueva huelga de hambre.
Creemos que se está cometiendo un deliberado y continuado abuso de poder
contra el Sr. Casellas. Amadeu mantiene la huelga de hambre porque le han
negado derechos tan básicos como el de las comunicaciones orales y escritas,
y los motivos que esgrime la prisión, son sucesos ocurridos en la calle,
cuando el Sr. Amadeu ni tan siquiera ha tenido la oportunidad de salir de
permiso, y por tanto no ha podido participar de esos sucesos de los que le
hacen responsable.
Por todo ello, le instamos a que proceda en consecuencia con dicha
situación, y normalice las comunicaciones orales y escritas de Amadeu.
Sin otro particular, y a la espera de su urgente actuación, atentamente.
