Am*dam 27-7 infoavond: Anarchisme in Azië
Anarchistische Groep Amsterdam/de Vrije Bond - 25.07.2009 21:28

In de Anarchistische Bibliotheek te Amsterdam
Anarchiste uit Taiwan spreekt:
Introductie in het hedendaagse anarchisme in Azië

Maandag 27 juli om 19:00
Eerste Schinkelstraat 14-16 Amsterdam

Picketline van anarchisten in de Filipijnen
Picketline van anarchisten in de Filipijnen

(ingles below)

In the Anarchist Library
Anarchist from Taiwan introduces current-day anarchism in Asia

Monday 27 July
from 19:00 hrs.
Eerste Schinkelstraat 14-16
Amsterdam

This evening a comrade will tell us about current anarchist movements in Asia. The evening will take us through the different countries by way of short reports: from the anarcho punks on the Philipines to the park squatters in Japan. From massive militant resistance against the US Army bases in South-Korea in the eighties to the Bejing Anarchist Study Group in China. Other countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Hong Kong will also be dealt with.
She will explain the political and socio-economical situation to us, to be able to understand the different movements and tendencies within their context. The complex social and political structures can not be compared to the ones of Northern Europe. The Asian societies are a mixture of harsh free market capitalism and dictatorship with a thick sauce of nationalism and conservatism. Anarchism is popping up like weed everywhere, fed by migraton, punk, internet and DIY publications. But it's growth doesn't only come from modern sources of inspiration, but can also be traced back to the anarchist mass movements of the early 20th century in Japan and China.
