Good Tip: Don't buy fur!

Saturday 5 December, Amsterdam – Respect voor Dieren returned to the streets of Amsterdam for more demonstrations against the cruel fur trade. We were present once again on Nieuwendijk, reaching thousand of shoppers and tourists with the message of animal liberation.

We started the day at Tip de Bruin, visited two weeks ago and awaiting another demonstration soon. This shop was chosen because as it is present solely in Amsterdam, we can focus our attention on it until we receive a fur free declaration. Next up was Leather Point, where we explained to onlookers the conditions on fur farms, where animals are imprisoned in tiny barren cages before a death by gassing or anal electrocution. At JHP Fashion we had an interesting discussion with the manager, in which we could explain the cruel truth behind the clothes instore. With 10 activists, we finished the day at Leder Paleis, a shop selling only dead animals – as fur or leather. A passer by was shocked to be told that the fur inside was real, telling us that fake fur looks just as good, and saves the lives of innocent animals.

As usual, the police were watching our every move. Some activists went for a jog in the city, and were followed by some rather breathless police. If you want to be as fast as us, try veganism!

We’ll be back on Nieuwendijk on Thursday 17 December. Check out www.respectvoordieren.nl for more details, and to find out about other upcoming actions. See you on the streets!
