VOKOMOKUM is an organic food co-operative in Amsterdam.
Simply said, a co op is a collective where everyone shares the workload for the benefit of the whole. In our case everyone puts in a few hours every few months and all members enjoy the benefit of organic food at wholesale prices with a 5% markup. The markup covers costs such as breakage, internet banking fees, website, and investments such as deposits on roll containers.. Orders are placed in bulk - this means that some orders might not go through each month.
VOKOMOKUM is growing collective of diverse people who want to get their food in an honest and social way. It is being developed on the model of a workers or consumers co-op, whereby each member does their bit. Orders are placed monthly and the pick-up day is the last Sunday of the month at Plantagedok, within the framework of the 'coswecan' DIY cafe. Vokomokum is not an on line shop. We are a hands on co op, not just a pick up point for what you have ordered on line. This is an important aspect of the 'voko' - its not just about getting good food, but also about social contact and community building.

Good quality organic food at almost wholesale prices. A new social network of people from diverse backgrounds with diverse skills. Within a few months of becoming a member, huge savings in time and money.
To order, one must first become a member, print off the membership form on the website and bring it to your first meeting. A non-refundable membership fee [€10 per vhead per household max €50] will be added to your first bill. New members are expected to attend a meeting (held on the last Sunday of the month coinciding with the pick up day at Plantagedok) before they can place an order. This can be seen as an orientation and introduction to the co op and also gives new members an opportunity to meet other members and browse the product list. Due to lack of storage space at Plantage Dok members are expected to collect their order on the pick up day or arrange someone else to collect the order.
All members are expected to do a shift every so often to evenly distribute the workload and to familiarize themselves with how the co op runs. The idea is that everyone should be capable of doing every task within the co op thus making sure that everyone feels that they have equal shares in the co op and the non-hierarchical structure is copperfasted. People can also donate their time in other ways such as providing help with IT issues, finding new sources for food, administrative assistance, etc.

Kort gezegd, een ko-op is een collectief waarin alle leden een deel van de werklast op zich nemen. In ons geval is dit eens per twee of drie maanden een paar uur werk. Alle leden kunnen maandelijks biologisch voedsel bestellen tegen groothandelsprijzen plus 5%. Deze 5% dekt de kosten zoals breuk, kosten van internet bankieren, de website, en investeringskosten zoals de waarborgsom voor rolcontainers. Veel artikelen moeten in omdozen besteld worden. Dit betekent dat wanneer bij de bestelling geen volle omdoos wordt gehaald deze niet besteld kan worden.
Vokomokum is een groeiend collectief van uiteenlopende mensen die hun voedsel op een eerlijke en sociale manier willen verkrijgen. Het wordt ontwikkeld naar het model van een werkers of consumenten collectief, waarbij ieder lid zijn steentje bijdraagt. Er wordt eens per maand besteld, en de afhaaldag is de laatste zondag van de maand in het cafe van de Plantagedok [plantagedoklaan 8, 1018CM]. Na het afhalen vindt de maandelijkse vergadering plaats. Deze dag is niet alleen bedoeld als afhaaldag, zoals de Voko niet alleen bedoeld is om goed voedsel te kopen. Een belangrijk aspect van de Voko is ook het sociale contact en het vormen van een gemeenschap.

Goede kwaliteit biologisch voedsel voor bijna groothandelsprijzen. Een nieuw sociaal netwerk van mensen met verschillende achtergronden en uiteenlopende vaardigheden.
Om te kunnen bestellen dien je eerst lid te worden. Hiertoe kun je het lidmaatschapsformulier op de website uitprinten en meenemen naar je eerste Voko vergadering. De vergaderingen zijn maandelijks, na het afhalen van de bestelling. Het niet-restitueerbare lidmaatschapsgeld [€10 per volvassen per hsuihouding, max €50] zal bij de eerste bestelling bijgeschreven worden. Nieuwe leden dienen een vergadering bij te wonen voor zij hun eerste bestelling kunnen plaatsen. Dit ter introductie en verdere oriëntatie op de Voko. Het geeft nieuwe leden ook de gelegenheid andere leden te ontmoeten en de De Nieuwe Band bestellijst in te zien.
Wegens de zeer beperkte opslagruimte in het Plantagedok dienen de leden hun bestelling ook echt op de afhaaldag zelf af te halen of door iemand anders laten afhalen.
Alle leden dienen eens in de paar maanden een dienst te draaien, zodat het werk gelijkelijk over alle leden verdeeld wordt en iedereen vertrouwd raakt met de werkwijze van de co-op. De bedoeling is dat iedereen na enige tijd alle voorkomende taken binnen de Voko kan vervullen, zodat een ieder er gelijkelijk deel van uitmaakt. Zo wordt de niet-hierachische structuur van de Voko gewaarborgd.Leden kunnen ook op andere wijze behulpzaam zijn, zoals met IT kennis, met het vinden van meer (locale) biologische voedselleveranciers, met hulp bij de administratie enz.
