Solidarity with dutch squatters
Squatters movement Porto - 04.10.2010 19:55

In solidaity with the Dutch squatters, that are being criminalised since the implementation of the new anti-squatting law on the 1th of october, a banner was hung today in Porto (Portugal) with the tekst: "Estamos aqui para dizer que a ocupação e libertação de espaços deverá ser uma das principais estratégias da luta por um mundo mais justo" (:We are here to say that squatting and the liberation of spaces should be one of the mayor strategies in the fight for a more fair world).

Recently evicted squat in Porto with banner!
Recently evicted squat in Porto with banner!

Squating is a way to claim back spaces that are abandoned for years and left to rot. These abanandones places make cities feel like ghosttowns, while they could be used to house people and create social spaces where people can meet, exchange knowledge, cultural events and set up projects. Squatting is a direct action of brave and creative minded people that need housing or want to create social spaces and oppose the privatisation of land for speculation and individual gain.

The new law in the Netherlands provides no solution for vacant houses but instead just gives more protection to house owners that love to speculate with their properties.

Wereldwijde schokgolf over Nederland
MM - 04.10.2010 22:21

The "Hop-Holland Day", o.i.d. ...
