9 juli 20:00 uur Plantage Doklaan 10-12

(english below)

(Right to the city debate (with Plantage Dok, Gallery Schijnheilig, Justus Uitermark, Tino Buchholz, Klasse! zaterdag 9 juli, 20:00 Plantage Doklaan 10-12)

zaterdag 9 juli, 20:00 Plantage Doklaan 10-12

-----------------------------

Film & Debate: Creative (capitalist) City. The struggle for affordable housing in Amsterdam (sat July 9, Plantage Doklaan 10-12 20:00).

Right to the city debate (with Plantage Dok, Gallery Schijnheilig, Justus Uitermark, Tino Buchholz, Klasse!)

The film Creative (capitalist) City documents the creative city / creative class debate that has influenced modern city planning the past decade and aims to portray the wider picture of the struggle for affordable space in urban areas, focusing on Amsterdam. See website and trailer

The hype around the creative city began already a decade ago, it is global in scope and about to reach its peak. What happens when the hype is over? The film will be followed by a short panel input and debate with the audience in an attempt to find a political answer to gentrification and the threat of co-optation by demands of social movements to affordable housing and autonomous spaces in the city. The concept ‘Right to the City’ will be explored with successful examples of movement organisation in Hamburg, whilst urban re-development plans such as temporary accommodation, squatting, anti-squatting and some institutional synthesis: "breeding places" Amsterdam, will be critically examined. If Anti-Squatting poses a threat to the Right to the City, how should we address the question of vacancy and making housing a right again, rather than a job?

The film will also be shown July 8 at Overtoom 301, but without a debate.
