Baobabconnections wants to grow into a platform for internet journalism.
We are working hard to make this website a place where people can find
information on globalisation from different perspectives. Also we are
trying to build a community of conscious and active people. We currently
have 564 members in 55 countries: from Andorra to Zimbabwe. Feel free to
grow together…

--------------------------------------------------

Dear people,

This is our seventh Baobabconnections Newsletter.
In this update we would like to inform everybody about 4 things:

1. You can still join our online competition. The deadline is October 17th
2002.

2. Check out our current online magazine on refugees.

3. Be prepared for our upcoming magazine that will focus on the ‘War
onTerrorism’.

4. Join a Baobabconnections meeting in The Netherlands on October 21st
2002.

If you want to subscribe to this newsletter, send a blank email to  subscribe@baobabconnections.org.

We hope you like what you read,

Vrede,
Baobabconnections Team
---------------------------------------------

1. You can still join our online competition. The deadline is October 17th
2002.

We hope to attract a lot of participants for our third online competition.
If you have something to say, sing dance, perform about AIDS/HIV than you
should check out our competition page to start looking for a partner to
join the competition. The winning team will be performing on an AIDS
Awareness festival at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam on
December 1st 2002. See all the detail here:
 http://www.baobabconnections.org/competition.php

Do you need some inspiration for your performance? French hip hop
sensation Saian Supa Crew celebrated the launch of Baobabconnections with
a blazing act. If you become a member, you can see them perform here:
 http://www.baobabconnections.org/login.php

---------------------------------------------

2. Check out our current online magazine on refugees.

Excerpt 1: Can you imagine feeling like a prisoner for life without ever
committing a crime? Baobabconnections proudly presents our online film on
refugees: ‘Suffer’.  http://www.baobabconnections.org/artikel.php?id=198

Excerpt 2: Segun Akinlolu is a Nigerian exile living in Canada. He is a
performance- poet, a singer who strums along to a guitar as he chants his
poetry to audiences across continents. Read his poem 'Where Rivers Sing A
Song' evokes ancestoral memory and a sense. You can read it here:
 http://www.baobabconnections.org/artikel.php?id=213

---------------------------------------------

3. Be prepared for our upcoming magazine that will focus on the ‘War on
Terrorism’.

Globalisation has found its war. Terror is the enemy, the Arab world is
the battle ground and the US leads the charge. The Bush administration is
paving its evil way towards a perpetual globalised war. While Iraq is
being accused of possessing and maybe even producing weapons of mass
destruction, in reality it’s clear that oil security is the true goal.
So, in the upcoming online magazine, Baobabconnections will offer you an
array of features, interviews, reviews, poetry, testimonies, video
footage and more aimed to inform and better yet to inspire you to take
action for peace. This edition of our online magazine is not to be
missed, it will be go online on October 15th.

---------------------------------------------

4. Join a Baobabconnections meeting in The Netherlands on October 21st
2002.

Baobabconnections organises a public meeting in Amsterdam will hold its
first monthly meeting. Cross pollinating academia, art, and activism, our
gathering will focus on America’s war on terror. We believe that this
war, in the interests of humanity and life, can be stopped and should be
stopped. We invite you to pledge resistance and join the growing chorus:
Not In Our Name/ No more Blood Transfusions for Oil.

So, people join us in as we attempt to transcend the fear and turn up the
faith at the Institute for Social Studies (ISS) in the Hague on Monday
21st October @ 8pm. Be there!

For more questions about this meeting in The Hague (The Netherlands), get
in contact with Sarah O’Gorman ( Sarah@baobabconnections.org)
