ASCII invites you to an information evening about the implications,
problems and threats of Data Retention - the keeping of data about each
and every connection users of electronic communication systems make.
ASCII invites you to an information evening about the implications,
problems and threats of Data Retention - the keeping of data about each
and every connection users of electronic communication systems make.
Data Retention means, the keeping of information about the connections
users make when using the internet, cellular phone services and landline
phones. Data Retention laws have been on the agenda of the European
Union legislators and the EU executive for a long time.
Through long-winded processes, which were conducted more under the
influence of government lobbyists rather than a democratic process,
these laws have now arrived at the phase of implementation.
All over Europe, internet and phone providers are required to spend
money on storage capacity and technical implementations to invade the
privacy of the users. All that under the banner of security and, of
course, the "War on Terror"
At ASCII we want to inform you about the extent of these regulations,
and how you can possibly still do something against them. Both by means
of using your democratic rights as citizens, and also by protecting your
privacy actively as a user.
