Mailaktie tegen het CIDI congres op 9-10 maart 2010

Stuur een email of brief naar het Vredes paleis om bezwaar te maken tegen het congres op 9-10 maart van het CIDI met de oud gouverneur van de VS Paul Bremer( heeft het land in rap tempo geprivatiseerd en grote opdrachten aan zijn vriendjes gegeven.
Oud-secretaris-generaal van de NAVO Jaap de Hoop Scheffer ,hoogleraar en de eerste bekleder van de Kooijmans-leerstoel voor OORLOG, ONRECHT en ONVEILIGHEID aan de Universiteit Leiden zal spreken. Verder zullen regeringsafgevaardigden zoals Verhagen,Hirsh Ballin en Rutte aanwezig zijn op het grote propaganda congres over een veilig Israel in een vreedzaam Israël.
Het Vredes paleis is een instituut waar recht wordt gesproken en geen plek voor propaganda en oorlogsvoorbereidingen .

On March 9 Dutch CIDI (local equivalent of AIPAC) will host a symposium “A safe Israel in a Peaceful Middle East”. The meeting is to take place in the Peace Palace in The Hague, which is home to the UN International Court of Justice (ICJ). Speakers at the meeting are Dan Meridor (vice premier of Israel, minister of Information and Nuclear Energy), Paul Bremmer (former US Governor in Iraq), Jaap de Hoop Scheffer (former NATO Secretary General), Ernst Hirsch Ballin (Dutch Minister of Justice, Christian Democrats), Danny Rothschild (Director of the Institute for Policy and Strategy, Herzliya, Israel), Irwin Cotler (Canadian MP) and Rob de Wijk (Director of the Centre for Strategic Studies in The Hague). Other participants are Maxime Verhagen (Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christian Democrats), Mark Rutte (Dutch MP, Liberals), Harry Kney-Tal (Israeli Ambassador) and of course Ronny Naftaniël (Director of CIDI).
The subject of the meeting is described as: “In order to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict it is necessary to reduce the insecurity in the Middle East and the feeling of insecurity. This is also important for the harmonious relationships between population groups in our part of the world. How do we end the verbal aggression, the threat of terror and war and the arms race in the Middle East? Can we prevent parts of the Arab-Israeli conflict from spilling over to Europe and the US? Would NATO membership of Israel and/or an international armed force be able to enhance security in the Middle East? Is it possible to prevent the development of an Iranian atom bomb?” The presentations are on “The law as a barrier against the import of hatred and violence from the Middle East”; “The nuclear threat of Iran”, “American guarantees for a peaceful Middle East”, “The role of NATO for security in the Middle East”, “The relationship between security and peace”, and “The right to security in international law”.
The only aim of this meeting of war crime supporters is to strengthen the power base of Israel at the expense of the Palestinians and surrounding Arab countries. They have chosen to convene in the same venerable institution that passed judgment on the Israeli Wall on Palestinian land in 2004, and defined both the Wall and the settlements as illegal. According to its verdict the Wall and the settlements must be dismantled.
The Israeli Government of which Dan Meridor is vice premier has chosen a path which runs counter to International Law and to the verdict of the ICJ. The Government of which he is a member has consistently refused to halt the illegal construction of settlements and Wall on Palestinian land, and is actively engaged in a policy of land theft and destruction of Palestinian homes and livelihoods to make way for Jewish colonization. He is a member of the same Government that illegally blockades the Gaza Strip and actively deprives its inhabitants of food, shelter, medical care, education and other basic needs.
We would welcome a meeting if it were to focus on implementation of the ICJ Advisory Opinion on the Wall and refunding of damage caused to the Palestinians. The planned meeting, however, will seek to perpetuate the illegal situation in the Occupied Territories, and seeks complicity from NATO and the governments of Canada and the Netherlands. It seeks to divert attention from Israel’s ample nuclear weaponry to the prevention of an Iranian bomb.
TAKE ACTION AND PROTEST AGAINST THIS MEETING TAKING PLACE IN THE PEACE PALACE! The Carnegie Foundation which offers space for meetings related to peace, law and security should not offer space to those aspiring to perpetuation of illegality and war crimes!

Subject: Don’t permit war crimes denialists to abuse the Peace Palace on March 9!
Dear Mr Van Hoogstraten,
It has come to my attention that on March 9, 2010 the Dutch Centre for Information and Documentation on Israel (CIDI), an unashamedly pro-Israel, political lobby-group will host a symposium entitled “A safe Israel in a Peaceful Middle East”. The meeting is to take place on the premises of the Peace Palace in The Hague, a building owned and managed by the Carnegie Foundation and which is home to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of the United Nations.
It is highly insulting that CIDI has chosen to convene this meeting in the same institution, which in 2004 issued an Advisory Opinion addressed to the United Nations and all states that the Israeli Wall, settlements and associated regime on Palestinian land were illegal. According to this authoritative verdict by the ICJ, which reaffirmed existing obligations in international law, the Wall and the settlements must be dismantled. But, rather than discuss its implications, CIDI has openly condemned this judgement of the ICJ, outrageously accusing it of having an anti-Israel bias.
I also wish to note that CIDI has refused to condemn Israel’s 2008-09 “cast lead” military operation in Gaza. This military operation and subsequent massacre, which countless, prominent international law experts have declared to be without legal foundation, also led to numerous war crimes, as established by the UN Goldstone Commission, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and countless others.
The Government of Israel, of which CIDI-invited speaker Dan Meridor is vice premier, has not only renounced the Advisory Opinion as “irrelevant”, it has consistently refused to halt the illegal construction of settlements and the Wall that are located on occupied Palestinian land. Meridor is furthermore a member of the same Government that continues to illegally blockade the Gaza Strip, depriving its civilian inhabitants of food, shelter, medical care, education and other basic needs.
This meeting is an insult to international law, to the United Nations and to the verdict of the ICJ. Worst of all, it is an insult to the memory of nearly 1000 civilians who were recently slaughtered in Israel’s illegal war in Gaza. The only aim of this meeting will be to strengthen the political position of Israel at the expense of human rights and international law. It will gloss over the illegal situation in the Occupied Territories, including Gaza, and demand complicity from NATO as well as the governments of Canada and the Netherlands.
The Carnegie Foundation, which owns the Peace Palace, hosts the International Court of Justice and offers space for debates related to peace, law and security should not offer space to those who actively seek to undermine these fundamental principles.
Mr. Van Hoogstraten, I urgently ask you to reconsider the Carnegie Foundation’s decision. Do not permit the Peace Palace to be used for such extremist purposes.

GEEN GOEDPRATERS VAN OORLOGSMISDADEN IN HET VREDESPALEIS!

Op 9 en 10 maart a.s. zal het CIDI een symposium organiseren “A safe Israel in a Peaceful Middle East”. De bijeenkomst is in het Vredespaleis, het eerbiedwaardige gebouw van de Carnegie Stichting dat het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ) van de Verenigde Naties huisvest. Sprekers zijn Dan Meridor (vice premier van Israel, minister van Informatie en Kernenergie), Paul Bremmer (voormalige VS Gouverneur in Irak), Jaap de Hoop Scheffer (voormalige secretaris-generaal van de NAVO), Ernst Hirsch Ballin (Nederlandse Minister van Justitie , CDA), Danny Rothschild (Directeur van het Institute for Policy and Strategy, Herzliya, Israel), Irwin Cotler (Canadese parlementariër) en Rob de Wijk (Directeur van het Centrum voor Strategische Studies in Den Haag). Andere deelnemers zijn Maxime Verhagen ( Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken, CDA), Mark Rutte (Kamerlid voor de VVD) Harry Kney-Tal (Israelische Ambassadeurr) en natuurlijk Ronny Naftaniël (Directeur van het CIDI).
Het onderwerp van het symposium is: “Om tot een oplossing van het Arabisch-Israelisch conflict te komen is het nodig de onveiligheid in het Midden-Oosten en het gevoel van onveiligheid te verminderen. Dat is ook van belang voor de harmonieuze verhoudingen tussen bevolkingsgroepen in ons deel van de wereld. Hoe maken we een eind aan de verbale agressie, de terreur- en oorlogsdreiging en de wapenwedloop in het Midden-Oosten? Kunnen we verhinderen dat onderdelen van het Arabisch-Israelisch conflict overslaan naar Europa en de VS? Zou een NAVO lidmaatschap van Israel en/of een internationale troepenmacht de veiligheid in het Midden-Oosten kunnen vergroten? Valt de ontwikkeling van een Iraanse atoombom te stuiten?”
Het enige doel van dit symposium is de machtsbasis van Israel te versterken ten koste van de Palestijnen en de omringende Arabische landen en Iran. Het CIDI heeft ervoor gekozen de bijeenkomst te laten plaatsvinden in het Vredespaleis, hetzelfde instituut dat in 2004 oordeelde dat de Israelische Muur en nederzettingen op Palestijns grondgebied illegaal zijn en ontmanteld moeten worden.
De Israelische regering waarvan Dan Meridor vice premier is heeft er juist voor gekozen het Internationaal Recht en de uitspraak van het Internationaal Gerechtshof de rug toe te keren. De Israelische regering waarvan hij deel uitmaakt heeft consequent geweigerd de illegale bouw van Muur en nederzettingen te beëindigen en voert een actief beleid van landroof en vernietiging van Palestijnse woningen en bestaansmiddelen, om de weg vrij te maken voor joodse kolonisatie. Dan Meridor is lid van dezelfde regering die de illegale blokkade van de Gazastrook voortzet die de bewoners onthoudt van voedsel, onderdak, medische zorg, onderwijs en andere basisbehoeften.
Wij zouden positief staan tegenover een bijeenkomst die zou gaan over uitvoering van de uitspraak van het Internationaal Gerechtshof, en vergoeding van door Palestijnen geleden schade. Het geplande symposium zal daarentegen streven naar voortzetting van de illegale situatie in de bezette gebieden, en de NAVO en de regeringen van Canada en Nederland medeverantwoordelijk maken.
Het symposium zal door te focussen op mogelijke Iraanse kernwapenproductie de aandacht proberen af te leiden van het reeds bestaande Israelische kernwapenarsenaal.
KOM IN AKTIE EN PROTESTEER TEGEN DIT SYMPOSIUM IN HET VREDESPALEIS! De Carnegie Foundation die ruimte biedt voor bijeenkomsten die verband houden met vrede, recht en veiligheid mag geen ruimte bieden aan partijen die streven naar voortzetting van illegaliteit en oorlogsmisdaden!

Geachte heer Van Hoogstraten,
Wij hebben informatie ontvangen dat het CIDI, een politieke lobbygroep die schaamteloos pro-Israel is, op 10 maart a.s. een symposium organiseert met als onderwerp “A Safe Israel in a Peaceful Middle East”. Het symposium is gepland in het Vredespaleis, een gebouw dat eigendom is en bestuurd wordt door de Carnegie Foundation, en waarin het Internationaal Gerechtshof (ICJ) van de Verenigde Naties is gehuisvest.
Het Internationaal Gerechtshof heeft voor de Verenigde Naties en alle lidstaten de illegaliteit uitgesproken van de Israelische Muur en nederzettingen op Palestijns grondgebied met alles wat daarbij hoort (“with the associated regime”). Volgens deze gezaghebbende uitspraak (Advisory Opinion), die bestaande afspraken in het Internationaal Recht opnieuw heeft bevestigd, moeten de Muur en de nederzettingen worden ontmanteld. Het CIDI heeft dit oordeel openlijk verworpen en het ICJ beschuldigd van een vooroordeel tegen Israel. Wij zien het daarom als een grove belediging dat het CIDI juist deze plaats heeft gekozen voor zijn bijeenkomst.
Ook heeft het CIDI geweigerd Israels militaire operatie (“Gesmolten Lood”) tegen Gaza te veroordelen. Talloze vooraanstaande deskundigen op het terrein van internationaal recht hebben deze militaire operatie en vervolgens slachtpartij bestempeld als illegaal. De operatie leidde tot vele oorlogsmisdaden zoals werd vastgesteld door de VN Commissie Goldstone, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and vele anderen.
De Israelische regering, waarvan één van de door CIDI uitgenodigde sprekers Dan Meridor vice premier is, heeft niet alleen de Advisory Opinion als “irrelevant” gedefinieerd, maar heeft ook consequent geweigerd de illegale bouw van nederzettingen en Muur op bezet Palestijns grondgebied stop te zetten. Meridor is lid van dezelfde regering die de illegale blokkade van de Gazastrook voortzet, waarmee het de burgerbevolking voedsel, onderdak, medische zorg, onderwijs en andere basisbehoeften onthoudt.
Deze bijeenkomst is een belediging voor het Internationaal Recht, voor de Verenigde Naties, en de uitspraak van het Internationaal Gerechtshof. De bijeenkomst is ook een belediging voor de nagedachtenis van de ruim 1400 slachtoffers van Israels illegale aanval op Gaza. Het enige doel van deze bijeenkomst is de politieke positie van Israel te versterken ten koste van de mensenrechten en het internationaal recht. De bijeenkomst zal de illegale situatie in the Bezette Gebieden inclusief Gaza verdoezelen of goedpraten, en de NAVO en de overheden van Canada en Nederland proberen medeplichtig te maken.
De Carnegie Foundation, die verantwoordelijk is het Vredespaleis, het Internationaal Gerechtshof huisvest en ruimte biedt aan debatten over vrede, recht en veiligheid zou geen ruimte moeten bieden aan degenen die er actief naar streven deze fundamentele beginselen van het internationaal recht te ondermijnen.
Geachte heer Van Hoogstraten, ik verzoek u dringend deze beslissing van de Carnegie Stichting te herzien en niet toe te staan dat het Vredespaleis wordt misbruikt voor dergelijke extremistische doeleinden.
