Manifestation against violence last Sunday near Homomonument

Last sunday, June 13th, gays, lesbians, queers, friends, family and even rebel clowns joined the manifestation against violence near the homomonument. Hundreds of people came. Clear statements to stop the increasing anti gay violence. Pink balloons as message of hope, respect and tolerance. Colourful people; vulnerable and strong and a spontaneous demonstration to the Rembrandt square.

As Amsterdam rebel clowns we first saw a call to join the manifestation  http://www.indymedia.nl/nl/2010/06/68152.shtml Then we heard a friend warning "This manifestation could be muslim bashing".
For us rebel clowns it's quite simple: we don't like violence against gays, lesbians and queers. We also don't like muslim bashing.
Good reason to form a Pink Clown Army that Sunday which:
A. should show solidarity
B. should protect and serve any couple who likes to make love
C. should leave immediately after hearing any bashing about any group (Muslims, Christians, Jews, Indians, Limburgers, Penguins, whatever).
Thanks Clown God there was noooo bashing at all. Happy to hear the right / left statements the violence against gays, lesbians, queers should stop right now! Statements done and supported by mayor Lodewijk Asscher and many more. Great performances and a sea of pink balloons asking for respect!
The manifestation started 15.00. After the performances and statements many people joined the spontaneous demonstration. One of the initiators asked the Pink Clown Army to help asking the people to join. We did. Many joined the route along the Keizersgracht, Spui, Kalverstraat, Reguliersbreestraat ending at the Rembrandt square.
Ending with music, dance, joy and an 'illegal' banner against violence at the Rembrandt statue - after some discussion tolerated by the police for at least 1 hour...
Looking forward to create a climate where people are free to express themselves, free to protest, free of fear, free of violence!

Afgelopen zondag, 13 juni, deden homo's, lesbo's, queers, vrienden, vriendinnen, familie en zelfs rebel clowns mee aan de manifestatie tegen geweld in de omgeving van het Homomunument. Er kwamen honderden mensen. Duidelijke statements die willen dat de toename van anti gay geweld gestopt wordt. Roze balonnen als boodschap van hoop, respect en tolerantie. Kleurrijke mensen; kwetsbaar en sterk en een spontane demonstratie naar het Rembrandtplein.
Als Amsterdamse rebel clowns zagen we eerst de oproep om aan de manifestatie deel te nemen http://www.indymedia.nl/nl/2010/06/68152.shtml Daarna hoorde we een vriend waarschuwen "Deze manifestatie zou kunnen ontaarden in moslim bashing".
Voor ons rebel clowns is het vrij simpel: we houden niet van geweld tegen homo's, lesbo's en queers. We houden ook niet van moslim bashing.
Goede reden dus om een Pink Clown Army te vormen die zondag:
A. solidariteit zou laten zien
B. onmiddelijk weg zou gaan na het horen van het bashen van welke groep dan ook (Moslims, Christenen, Joden, Indianen, Limburgers, Pingwins, enz.)
Clowngodzijdank was er helemaal geen sprake van bashing. Fijn om de juistrechtslinkse statements te horen dat het geweld tegen homo's, lesbo's, queers onmiddelijk moet stoppen! Statements gedaan en ondersteund door burgemeester Lodwijk Asscher en vele anderen. Fantastische optredens en een zee van roze ballonnen die om respect vragen!
De manifestatie begon om 15.00 uur. Na de optredens en toespraken namen veel mensen deel aan de spontane demonstratie. Een van de initiatiefnemers vroeg de Pink Clown Army om te helpen met het aan de mensen vragen om aan de demo mee te doen. Dat deden we. Velen liepen mee op de route over de Keizersgracht, Spui, door de Kalverstraat, Reguliersbreestraat eindigend op het Rembrandtplein.
Afsluitend met muziek, dans, plezier en een 'illegaal' spandoek tegen geweld op het standbeeld van Rembrandt - na wat discussie met de politie voor minstens 1 uur getolereerd...
We kijken uit naar het creëren van een klimaat waar mensen vrij zijn om zichzelf tot uitdrukking te brengen, vrij om te protesteren, vrij van angst, vrij van geweld!
