15.49 Most demonstrators now pushed out of the square and into the side streets. People are still trying to get back into the square but the riot police and the Stalinists are blocking access.
15.30 At least 20 demonstrators have been injured by the clashes. The Stalinists have handed demonstrators to the police. At least two Stalinists have been burnt by molotovs. Clashes continue at Mitropoleos Street.
15.38 Police have now taken all of the lower part of the Syntagma Square and the Stalinists have the upper part.
15.27 Full-on police attack to clear Syntagma. Large crowd pushed down Ermou street.
15.18 Incredible scenes – generalised violence across much of Syntagma. More molotovs and stones thrown at the Stalinists crowd.
15.15 Police now try to enter the square from Stadiou and to trap the anarchists.
14.59 The clashes are escalating. Molotov thrown into Stalinist crowd.
14.52 Clashes continue as protestors try and reach the parliament. The clashes are severe, flares shot straight into the crowd.

16.35 Report from Greek Indymedia: while the anti-authoritarian/anarchist groups were fighting with the pame security forces at the upper side of the syntagma square, riot cops tried to attack them from the lower side. Then people from base syndicates, ultra left (a trotskyist group called EEK), the union of workers who support drug addicts and other demonstrators blocked the riot cops and this way helped the anarchists who were fighting the stalinists.
goed om te zien dat ze daar niet alleen staan te knokken maar dat de mensen die niet mee knokken heel goed begrijpen waarom die collaborateurs daar op moeten flikkeren!

16.21 Large groups have started occupying the lower side of syntagma square and numbers are growing, coming in from the side streets. Syntagma square is full again with PAME members at the upper side in front of the parliament and the other demonstrators (base syndicates, union groups, ultra-left, anti-authoritarians) at the lower side.

16.30 GMT+2 Earlier in Rethymnon, on Crete Island, members of KNE threatened protesters with sticks, opposite the city hall.
In Mytilini, on Lesvos Island, the assembly of the occupied Periphery decided to end the occupation with an evening demo, in about one hour when strikers will march in the city streets.
16.20 GMT+2 Thousands of members of PAME are in front of the parliament. Police pulled back from the lower parts of Syntagma; smaller groups of anti-authoritarians, base unions and ultra left try to enter the square from the lower side; most union demonstrators still blocked in the side streets.
The ministry of Finance in Mitropoleos Street is under occupation from strikers.
16.10 GMT+2 Extensive use of tear gas now in Syntagma. Stalinists attacked demonstrators who tried to take the square.
15.45 GMT+2 There are still demonstrators in Amalias Street, in front of the parliament, as well as in Fillelinon and Mitropoleos streets. The square is evacuated and encircled by cops, though. The Stalinists are still blocking access.
It must be clear that PAME and KNE are not communists. They are Stalinist snitches and ruffians who work for the regime. Today, they have handed more demonstrators to the police —as they have done in numerous cases in the past, i.e. back in 1998.

15.20 GMT+2 Severe injured protesters (at least 20) are constantly being transferred to the medical centre of Syntagma Square. PAME/ΚΝΕ members seem to have direct contact with police officers and handed at least one (most probably anarchist) protester to the police. They also attacked insurrectionist demonstrators. Now protesters counterattack the cops and the scumbags of PAME/ΚΝΕ

Kort uitgelegd:
Stalinisten zijn autoritaire communisten die zich baseren op de 'leerstoel' van Stalin.
Anarchisten zijn anti-autoritairen die geloven in zelforganisatie en een gelijkwaardige (meestal vrij-communistische) samenleving.

Stalinism is an alledgedly branche of communism that is very high on autoritarianism and centralized governments. It usually also associated with rapid industrialization, and total collectivation. Though I dont know how that is involved with current greek stalinists. The main point is that stalinist believe in strong hierarchy (huh?), strong leaders, and centralized governments.
Anarchist are generally people who believe in self determination, de-centralizetion, liberty, taking your own responsibilties, and equality.
There are also numerous socialist and communist/communalist groups that define themselves towards being 'marxist' or 'trostkyist', often to differentiate themselves from the system applied by lenin and stalin, that according to many is not truly communist, and defiled the original idea's of communism.

But what the fuck are stalinists doing collaborating with the autorities that defend and maintain capitalism.
There are numerous examples of stalinists sabotaging socialist and anarchist struggle dating from the 3rd international (3e internationale) and spanish revolution in the thirties.
But is there anybody who can give more background and context to what is happening in greece right now, and why?
- why are they fighting with police
- why are they defending the current government?
- why are they opposing the general strike and protests from the left wing in greece?

PAME vormde een linie voor het parlement, vrijwel zij-aan-zij met de politie. Dit omdat PAME van mening is dat het parlement niet bestormd dient te worden (met in het achterhoofd het feit dat de KKE maar wat graag zelf het pluche wilt bekleden). Toen enkele sociale bewegingen (de "I won't pay beweging" tegen de verhogingen in het openbaar vervoer en gas/electra) naar het parlement optrokken vormde PAME een blokkade om aan de autoriteiten te laten zien wat voor een 'betrouwbare, ordelijke demonstranten' het wel niet waren (en hoe aantrekkelijk ze als onderhandelingspartner voor de regering worden).
Dit resulteerde in conflict tussen de grote groep die het parlement wilde bestormen, versterkt door diverse anarchisten, basis-vakbonden en autonomen enerzijds en PAME/KKE en de politie anderzijds. Hierbij leverde KKE militanten enkele anarchisten over aan de politie en ontzegden ze de rest de toegang tot het plein en parlement.
De KKE heeft haar oog op een dominante positie in het parlement en als gevolg daarvan wilt ze overkomen als 'betrouwbare onderhandelings en ordehandhavingspartner' voor de politie. De rest is daar ondergeschikt aan. Kortom: nep-communisten.

Na wat rond te hebben gebeld met Griekse vrienden uit verschillende groepen, lijkt het erop dat het volgende is gebeurd.
PAME, de vakbond van de Stalinistische partij KKE, was twee uur voor alle andere demonstranten naar Syntagma (het parlementsplein) gegaan en hebben daar direct linies voor het parlement gevormd (of in ieder geval, het gedeelte waar mensen normaal voorbij proberen te komen, wat nog vele tientallen meters van het eigenlijke parlement is). Dit waren echt knokploeg-achtige linies vol met brede mannen met dikke houte stokken. Ook toen andere demonstranten het plein opkwamen hielden ze deze linies vol, en gedroegen zich zeer agressief tegen andere demonstranten. Als je geen PAME-pasje kon laten zien moest je oprotten.
Toen het blok van de "I won't pay-beweging" (een grote nationale beweging tegen de hoge tolheffing op Griekse wegen) aankwam en naar het parlement wilde marcheren werden zij tegengehouden door de Stalinisten. Hier werd ook geweld bij gebruikt (ik neem aan van beide kanten). PAME werkte hier samen met de politie. Ook anderen, socialisten en anarchisten, begonnen zich met het conflict te bemoeien.
Na verloop van tijd kwam er een grote aanval van anarchisten en anti-autoritairen op een PAME-blok. Maar achter die linie van "veiligheidstroepen" van de Stalinisten (inmiddels ook met motorhelmen op) stond ook nog een grote massa PAME-leden die niet beschermd waren. Enkele "anarchisten" gooiden ook stenen en stukken marmer die groep in. PAME, op hun beurt, leverde meerdere mensen uit aan de politie (die PAME met rust liet en tevens de anarchisten aanviel).
Hierna volgde grootschalige gevechten tussen beide kampen plaats. Enkelingen gooiden hierbij ook molotovs op de Stalinisten in een poging ze te vermoorden (maar zie het eerste filmpje onderaan, waarbij een molotov wordt gegooid vanuit een massa die op de vlucht moet voor een aanstromende PAME-knokploeg). PAME-troepen sloegen op hun beurt vele mensen in elkaar, tevens op de grond liggende mensen, etc. etc. etc.

De dood van een PAME-lid was niet gerelateerd aan dit hele gebeuren. Hij werd vermoord door de chemicaliën van de politie.
