The RAI in Amsterdam will host the 'BORDERPOL Global Forum' from Tuesday 31st October to Thursday 2nd November. This is a major international conference and marketplace for border control and military technologies. During this event, representatives of police, border guards and armed forces from dozens of countries come together and discuss policies with arms and security companies. There are many workshops, presentations and discussions on how in particular European border management can be further enhanced and which new technological facilities are available for this.

Current European migration policy relies on militarization of border security , on detention and deportation, and putting more pressure on countries outside the EU to function as external border posts. The terrible consequences of this policy are seen in many places. In Europe, where people are living in horrible conditions on Greek islands, where employees of the infamous security company G4S are abusing and maltreating detained refugees in the UK and families are deported to completely unsafe Afghanistan. At the borders of Europe, where over 2,500 refugees have died trying to cross the Mediterranean this year and people come across security borders and violently abusive border guards at the Hungarian borders. And outside of Europe, where refugees are detained on their way to the EU and end up in refugee camps in Libya and others are being hand over to dictators like Al-Bashir in Sudan.

The way Europe primarily deals with refugees as a security issue plays into the narrative of the far right and creates a flourishing market for the military and security industry. Industry is still lobbying for evermore military border controls. Fairs as the BORDERPOL Global Forum are important meeting points for these companies. These are the places where industrial, military, police and political leaders meet and discuss their tactics and where new products and services are presented.

Such an event should not be allowed to take place without protest. We urge everyone to take action against the BORDERPOL Global Forum and against the inhumane policies which these companies propagate and profit from. On 4 October we meet in NieuwLand (Pieter Nieuwlandstraat 93 in Amsterdam) to discuss what we are going to do and how to organize it. Everyone's contribution is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, or if you want to get involved or stay informed, please email: 4freedom@riseup.net.

4Freedom of Movement is a new initiative of people who think that there must be a radical change in refugee policy. No exclusion, confinement and expulsion, but shelter and help, and especially destruction of the causes that force people to flee. Because it are often Western economic and military international politics which force people to flee their homes and families.
