Klimaat Meetup?

Join us at the Climate Meetup of GroenLinks to make sure they know what the Amsterdam college is up to: allowing one of the last arable land spaces in Amsterdam be destroyed for the profit of Schipol Area Development Company.

Monday 4 March from 7 pm we will flyer in the Melkweg where Groen Links, led by Jesse Klaver, has a meeting about the climate.

This Climate Meetup occurs while the ' most green and progressive' college of Amsterdam is in the process of committing a huge blunder when it comes to climate conscious policy making. .

The Amsterdam Lutkemeerpolder is not only a place for organically grown vegetables and green open spaces, it plays a crucial role in any real climate policy; from local food production and it's effect on reducing fossil fuel use, to carbon and water storage in green spaces, to the promotion of biodiversity found in organic and small-scale food production models.

A new UN report warns that food production is being seriously threatened by the loss of biodiversity. And that this loss of biodiversity is largely attributed to 'land conversion'. In other words: the transformation of green areas into roads, business parks and residential areas.

Destroying such a valuable resource for a business park linked to Schipol Airport is not in the interest of a city council which aims to tackle the challenges we face in creating a 'Fossil Free Amsterdam by 2030", GroenLinks own campaign promise.
It is one thing to make a promise, it is another to plan realistically to make that promise a reality. If the college allows the profit of a few to dictate it's decisions then we can never reach our goals of mitigating climate crisis.
