Letter Writing Solidarity at Fort van Sjakoo:
Friday, November 21st, 19:00 / Free entry
Stamps, envelopes, letters, and guidelines on how to write will be made available.
The Fort van Sjakoo will host a letter-writing event for political prisoners facing decades in prison in the US, amidst an ever-increasing state of fascism and repression there. It will act as a gathering for international solidarity and a proper warm-up event for visitors to the Amsterdam Anarchist bookfair. Plus, a great way to visit the Fort van Sjakoo!

The event will offer information and a brief presentation on the "Prairieland Defendants" in Texas, USA. The Prairieland Defendants are over a dozen individuals facing years in prison as a result of a case that has become a testing ground for Trump's efforts to deem 'antifa' as a 'terror organization' in the USA. Lives have already been trampled by traumatic repression and pre-emptive punishment for these comrades facing the wrath of the state. And their case will also potentially communicate new precedents of repression, anti-fascists and anarchists should prepare for across the USA, and around the world.
In addition to information on the case, letter-writing materials and a guide for safely sending letters to prisoners in the USA will be made available to participants. Letters to prisoners, especially those in the United States, offer a lifeline of hope and support through some of the harshest times. Every letter sent is a reminder of the solidarity that exists beyond the walls, and a simple practice that helps preserve international solidarity and a community that supports one another amidst worsening repression.

Pennsylvania prisons:
Mumia Abu-Jamal, is still writing by hand and on a plastic typewriter,no computers are allowed.
His tablet for email only allows 2,000 characters and he cannot print out messages,
so he cannot save his writing on it.
He breaks regulation if he has more than seven books in his cell at a time.
Communication has been made more difficult with Pennsylvania prisoners,
as the prison has added the bizarre requirement,
that all mailed letters and cards are sent to Smart Communications in Florida.
In a Kafkaesque sequence, any mail he gets first has to be sent to Florida,
scanned, and then printed out at the prison in PA and handed to him.
This convoluted chain of communication is another profit choke point,
that funnels money to some crony who has the mail processing bid for the PA DOC,
as usual at the cost of the incarcerated persons connection to the outside world.
Mumia is innocent in the prison now for 43 years; he needs to be FREE.
Write him a card or letter to give him some solidarity-sign.
