Navalny is not only a right wing liberal but he also holds highly ethnic nationalist views. Basically, democracy for ethnic Russians does not make him a liberal right wing but literally a fascist. He defended the Moscow riots of 2011 where stores and warehouses of minorities were attacked. His the people movement collaborated with the most fascist organisations there are in russia such as the MAII. Further, as admitted in an interview he does not like ukranian independence that much.
Even supposedly human rights organisations like Amnesty picked up the Navalny topic and decided to make him the new martyr of free speech. Again showing us how the focus of NGO's and the liberalisation of social and human rights issues is shaped by the discourse in mainstream establishment media. A product really that can only be sold with good advertisement.
Focus on activist challenging this system and understand how basic human right can never be globally egalitarian in the context of (late-)capitalism don't get attention by these institutions because they are a danger to the maintenance of them as well. Liberals are open to the right or at least blind to see dangers of the radical facism when they arise.
