So this Friday NieuwLand was going to be the proud host of an event titled PINK - Black Girl Magic in Focus, but that got cancelled last minute - so we'll throw in a pizza and watch a movie together. To stay somewhat not too far away from topic we will screen a feature-long documentary about the famous Angela Davis trial back in the seventies in the US.

Although the documentary mostly retraces the famous trial (and final acquitment) in a classic courtroom-drama-style, it also does a fair attempt at giving a broader look at the solidarity movement around the issue, and at the racist US society and dito government at large. Of course it has a bunch of gritty black-and-white archive footage. It also features several bits of a longer interview with Angela Davis herself: maybe not quite Black Girl Magic, but still pretty rock'n roll :-).
